Celebrated anime artist and filmmaker Shinya Ohira discussed his new Star Wars short in a pre-recorded Q+A at Anime NYC today.
By Lucas Seastrom
When Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 arrives on Disney+ on October 29, 2025, the third installment of the anthology series will feature nine brand-new anime shorts all made by Japanese studios. Today, fans at Anime NYC were treated to a special preview of david production’s “BLACK,” with new insights from the writer and director Shinya Ohira. Combining stunning imagery and music, the experimental short presents a psychedelic battle between past and present, light and dark, and life and death in the haunted psyche of an Imperial stormtrooper on the cusp of defeat.
“Something nobody’s ever seen before”
“We wanted to offer a film that was mainly based on Sakura Fujiawara’s singing voice set against these visuals of intense battles. That was our vision as we made the film,” Ohira explained in a pre-recorded video. A veteran artist of everything from Akira (1988) to Spirited Away (2001) to Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003), Ohira-san also served as character designer and key animator for “BLACK.” “As for the interpretation of the story,” he added, “the viewers, the people watching it, we kind of wanted to leave it up to them…so that’s how we made it.”…

Creator Tony Gilroy weighs in on Season 2 of the series starring Diego Luna amid the journey to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
By StarWars.com Team
The first trailer for Andor Season 2 exploded onto the scene today, with a glimpse at the birth of the Rebel Alliance as we know it. Ahead of the long-awaited season premiere on April 22, 2025, the trailer reunites us with Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), Senator Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly), Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona), Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård), and Syril Karn (Kyle Soller) from the critically-acclaimed and Emmy-nominated first season of the Disney+ series, as well as key characters from the fan-favorite standalone film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, like K-2SO (Alan Tudyk), Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker), and Director Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn)….
New details about Season 2 were revealed at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, where the audience also got a first look at footage from Skeleton Crew and a sizzle for The Mandalorian and Grogu!
By StarWars.com Team
B2EMO has been studying up since we last saw the little droid in Andor Season 1.
At the first D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in Brasil today, the groundmech rolled onstage and spoke Portuguese during the Showcase Panel segment announcing that Andor: A Star Wars Story Season 2 will premiere April 22, 2025, with a new logo for the ongoing series.
While Season 1 followed a year in Cassian Andor’s life set about five years before the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the forthcoming episodes will bridge the remaining gap. Covering four years told in three-episode arcs, Andor Season 2 follows Cassian as he evolves into a leader for the emerging Rebel Alliance. Cassian may have been a reluctant hero before, but the Andor we’ll meet next year is fueled by a higher purpose in the fight for freedom against the Empire….

To celebrate the LEGO Star Wars 25th anniversary, StarWars.com is excited to reveal the new LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series TIE Interceptor, arriving May 1 — just in time for May the 4th.
A redesign of the original TIE Interceptor building set that was part of the first launch of the Ultimate Collector Series in 2000, the new 1,931-piece craft measures over 12.5 inches high, 16 inches long and 13 inches wide. Impressive. Most impressive.
“Finally making the UCS TIE Interceptor again after so many years was so exciting for me,” Henrik Andersen, designer master at the LEGO Group, tells StarWars.com. “Compared to the last time I designed the UCS TIE Interceptor, I was now able to create a close-to-perfect replica of the movie prop. It’s always been one of my favorite Star Wars ships.”…

In conversation with Tom Spina and the head of the Star Wars: Return of the Jedi monster shop, StarWars.com unveils the ferociously unique collectible.
In Phil Tippett’s mind, the rancor — Jabba the Hutt’s captive pet first seen in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi — was always going to be a puppet. But Star Wars creator George Lucas had other plans.
“George was usually pretty loose with his direction,” Tippett tells StarWars.com. “He said, ‘I need a big monster for the Jabba’s Palace scene.’” At that point, there wasn’t a complete script, just Lucas’ vision of Luke Skywalker falling into a pit beneath Jabba’s throne room and having to fight the beast within. “I came up with that design thinking that it was going to be a stop-motion or go-motion deal,” Tippett continues. “And then George said, ‘We’re going to make the best Godzilla suit ever!’ At which point Dennis [Muren] and I kind of went like, ‘Uh oh.’”…

Over the past two decades, the downfall of the Republic had been well-documented in a variety of movies, television shows, comics, and books. In Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, for instance, we first saw the covert holograms of Darth Sidious ordering Order 66, Palpatine declaring himself Emperor in front of the Senate, and the construction of the first Death Star. In Star Wars: The Clone Wars, we learned more about inhibitor chips, the plans for the clone army, and more of the Sith lord’s machinations.
And now, in Star Wars: The Bad Batch, there is a previously un-glimpsed look at what comes immediately after: the first days of the Galactic Empire. It is told with fascinating moments of world-building and a deeper look into the larger galaxy. As its second season unfolds on Disney+, StarWars.com now takes a look at The Bad Batch and the insights that it has brought so far into that tumultuous time…

The galaxy far, far away is expanding with the arrival of Marvel’s Star Wars: Sana Starros #1 this week, charting a course to all-new locations, according to the comic creators.
First stop: the Starros homeworld of Hosnian Prime, where we’ll discover the origins of the scoundrel. “Justina [Ireland] is depicting parts of the universe that have never been explored before,” says series artist Pere Pérez. “This series has action, character development, and family drama.”
“I love character backstories, because where we come from is such a huge part of who we are,” Ireland adds. “Getting to give her this huge messy family with ties all the way back to the High Republic has been really fun. They are messy and loving and all a little too good at what they do. I won’t say anything more than that because…spoilers!”…
A new set of posters representing each film from the Star Wars sequel trilogy has been unveiled.
Created by artist Devin Schloeffler, this poster set has been officially licensed by Lucasfilm, as seen in the bottom left corner of each print.
Schloeffler previously released posters with this same design for Star Wars prequel and original trilogies.
Each poster features a collage of characters and key sequences in conjunction with a central dominant symbol or icon from that particular film.
For instance, in The Force Awakens print which is titled “The Seventh,” BB-8 is front and center with Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren filling out the remainder of the droid’s silhouette…
