Unique Stories of Star Wars: Visions

Here’s the latest from: StarWars.Com

The critically-acclaimed animated anthology series, which has given global studios the chance to explore Star Wars like never before, returns with new shorts October 29.

By Paige Lyman

A massive space battle between powerful twins created through the power of the dark side, a village wedding attended by a mysterious former Jedi Padawan, and a group of friends confronted by an ethereal ghost. These are just a few stories that only Star Wars: Visions could tell.

Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 arrives in one week, the latest chapter in an anthology series that gives creative teams around the globe the chance to explore the Star Wars galaxy in surprising new ways. Volumes 1 and 2 delivered stunning animation, emotionally resonant new characters, and stories that drew on real-world inspiration for a series that is a love letter to a galaxy far, far away. Through cultural and personal touchpoints, Visions showcases the universality of Star Wars.

In Volumes 1 and 2, each studio expressed their own identity and interests, pulling from inspiration as varied as Akira Kurosawa films, banshees of Irish folklore, and artworks by painters like Picasso and Dalí. While Kurosawa famously inspired George Lucas when he created Star Wars, Visions expanded on the homage, perhaps most specifically with the black and white (and red) short “The Duel,” which will get a sequel in Volume 3. The main antagonist in Volume 2’s “Screecher’s Reach” by Ireland-based Cartoon Saloon has clear connections to the tales that permeate the filmmakers’ heritage. And Spain-based El Guiri Studios’ story and animation for Volume 2’s “Sith” were influenced by the bold and colorful work at play in the Cubist and Surrealist styles…

Celebrated anime artist and filmmaker Shinya Ohira discussed his new Star Wars short in a pre-recorded Q+A at Anime NYC today.

By Lucas Seastrom

When Star Wars: Visions Volume 3 arrives on Disney+ on October 29, 2025, the third installment of the anthology series will feature nine brand-new anime shorts all made by Japanese studios. Today, fans at Anime NYC were treated to a special preview of david production’s “BLACK,” with new insights from the writer and director Shinya Ohira. Combining stunning imagery and music, the experimental short presents a psychedelic battle between past and present, light and dark, and life and death in the haunted psyche of an Imperial stormtrooper on the cusp of defeat.

“Something nobody’s ever seen before”
“We wanted to offer a film that was mainly based on Sakura Fujiawara’s singing voice set against these visuals of intense battles. That was our vision as we made the film,” Ohira explained in a pre-recorded video. A veteran artist of everything from Akira (1988) to Spirited Away (2001) to Kill Bill: Vol. 1 (2003), Ohira-san also served as character designer and key animator for “BLACK.” “As for the interpretation of the story,” he added, “the viewers, the people watching it, we kind of wanted to leave it up to them…so that’s how we made it.”…

On the kyber-rich planet of Korba, the young Aau embraces her gifts.

It takes time and bravery to find one’s voice.

But despite Aau’s devotion to her father, she cannot deny her destiny. Directed by Nadia Darries and Daniel Clarke, “Aau’s Song” tells a beautiful tale, thematically and visually, of personal discovery and acceptance — with a Star Wars touch. Visions Revisited: 5 Highlights from The Pit

Here’s the latest from: StarWars.Com

By Kristin Baver

Lucasfilm and D’ART Shtajio join forces for a thought-provoking look inside the Empire’s cruelty.

As the voice of Crux, Daveed Diggs leads a rallying cry for unity in Lucasfilm and D’ART Shtajio’s installment in Visions Volume 2. Written and co-directed by Lucasfilm’s own LeAndre Thomas, alongside Lucasfilm Animation alum Justin Ridge serving as co-director, the short is an intimate exploration of class divisions. Focused on a forced labor camp literally digging themselves into a hole to supply a nearby city with resources, the story unflinchingly examines the price of the Empire’s prosperity. But even in the darkest days, when the Empire declares the work complete and walks away from the people who remain at the bottom of the quarry, hope prevails. Here are five highlights from “The Pit,” now streaming on Disney+…

Balance can come in many forms.

For Star Wars: Visions Volume 2, Studio Mir has created “Journey to the Dark Head,” an unpredictable tale of a two unlikely partners: a haunted young Jedi named Toul, and Ara, a mechanic determined to end the war between the Jedi and the Sith. Ara believes that by cutting off the head of a giant “dark” statue, she can accomplish her goal; Toul is ordered to join her, and the experience brings both a greater understanding of the world around them and themselves. Visions Revisited: 5 Highlights from `In the Stars`

Here’s the latest from: StarWars.Com

By Dan Brooks

Punkrobot’s story of Force-sensitive sisters delivers action and emotion.

Hope and family are constant themes in Star Wars, and Punkrobot’s Star Wars: Visions short, “In the Stars,” is a beautiful exploration of those motifs. The story follows two orphaned sisters, Koten and Tichina, who have seen the Empire pillage their planet and destroy their people, including their mother. While Koten has grown somewhat cynical, the younger Tichina still believes they can win, and finally challenges their occupiers. Directed by Gabriel Osorio Vargas, “In the Stars” was created with gorgeous stop-motion animation, and pulls at the heartstrings with a layered script.
