Andor Revisited: Small Acts of Rebellion

Here’s the latest from: StarWars.Com

By Kelly Knox

There’s more than one way to be a rebel.

While Andor is the story of Cassian Andor and how he became the person we met in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, his rebel origin story isn’t the only one unfolding in the captivating series. Whether it’s the unforgettable breakout from Narkina 5, or the small acts of rebellion by Maarva Andor, Brasso, and even humble fishermen, their stories are just as vital in shaping Cassian into the rebel hero he ultimately becomes.

In “Daughter of Ferrix” and “Rix Road,” directed by Benjamin Caron and written by Tony Gilroy, the final two episodes of the groundbreaking first season of Andor, we follow Cassian after his escape on Narkina 5 back to his home on Ferrix. As the season concludes this chapter in Cassian’s life, we see the citizens of Ferrix rise up, proving that if people stand up for what’s right in even the smallest of ways, those moments matter – and can reverberate across an entire galaxy….

Andor Revisited: One Way Out

Here’s the latest from: StarWars.Com

By Amy Richau

At the start of Andor’s third story arc, most of the main characters are approaching precarious turning points. The Empire is cracking down on citizens throughout the galaxy for the smallest infractions as their Imperial Security Bureau is determined to close in on the rebels responsible for the heist at Aldhani. In the “Narkina 5,” “Nobody’s Listening!,” and “One Way Out,” all directed by Toby Haynes, the production design and dialogue from writers Beau Willimon and Tony Gilroy take center stage as many characters are literally or figuratively trapped by the Empire.

Narkina 5

Cassian, still using the pseudonym Keef Girgo, is shipped out to the Imperial prison Narkina 5. Notably, one of the first things the prisoners are required to do while in transit is remove their shoes. The prison is a sea of white hallways, bunks, and work rooms where inmates are required to quickly work together to build pieces of equipment for the Empire. Order is maintained by electric floors that send shocks through barefoot prisoner’s bodies if they break a rule or work too slowly. Andor soon settles into life in captivity, but always keeps an eye towards a possible escape….

Andor Revisited: The Making of a Rebel

Here’s the latest from: StarWars.Com

In anticipation of Season 2 of Andor, premiering on Disney+ April 22, 2025, rewatch Diego Luna as Cassian in “Aldhani,” “The Axe Forgets,” “The Eye,” and “Announcement.”

By Lucas Seastrom

Now 20 years after we first watched Luke’s father, Anakin Skywalker, become Darth Vader in Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith (2005), a long-awaited answer to one of the saga’s defining questions of how the Sith Lord came to be, Cassian’s journey raises a new question. Andor (2022-25) is not about how Cassian will meet his fate, but how he will become the man willing to make such a heroic sacrifice. As Luthen tells Cassian with poignant frankness, “I imagine your hate. I imagine that no matter what you tell me or you tell yourself, you’ll ultimately die fighting these bastards.”

Andor’s creator and executive producer Tony Gilroy once told StarWars.com, “If the title hadn’t been used before, you could almost call the show The Winds of War.” The story told across the second arc of Andor’s first season — including “Aldhani,” “The Axe Forgets,” and “The Eye,” all directed by Susannah White and written by Dan Gilroy; and “Announcement,” directed by Benjamin Caron and written by Stephen Schiff — takes those “winds of war” to a hurricane-level….

By Brandon Wainerdi

Cassian Andor isn’t the hero we know when we meet him in the first arc of Andor Season 1. Obsessed with the past, self-serving and brash, he is incredibly far from the legendary Rebel Alliance leader he will become. Instead of spending his days on Yavin prepping for his mission to Scarif in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, this younger Cassian is searching for answers about his past, leading him to a brothel on the rainy world of Morlana One. And, with flashing lights and pulsating music, the cold open of that very first episode immediately plunges us into the seedy underbelly of the galaxy we know. It is a brand new kind of Star Wars story…

Written and co-directed by Lucasfilm’s own LeAndre Thomas, alongside Lucasfilm Animation alum Justin Ridge serving as co-director, the short is an intimate exploration of class divisions. Focused on a forced labor camp literally digging themselves into a hole to supply a nearby city with resources, the story unflinchingly examines the price of the Empire’s prosperity. But even in the darkest days, when the Empire declares the work complete and walks away from the people who remain at the bottom of the quarry, hope prevails. While Koten has grown somewhat cynical, the younger Tichina still believes they can win, and finally challenges their occupiers. Visions Revisited: 5 Highlights from Screecher’s Reach

Here’s the latest from: StarWars.Com

By Kristin Baver

The horror-infused short from Cartoon Saloon brings the lore of the banshee into the galaxy far, far away in Star Wars: Visions Volume 2.

Just as the island of Skellig Michael’s rocky coast and humble huts made the perfect setting for the watery world of Ahch-To in the Star Wars sequel trilogy, the striking terrain of nearby County Kerry in Ireland inspired the creators at Cartoon Saloon. But Screecher’s Reach is more than a moody landscape. Merging tales of banshees from Irish folklore, the red-bladed lightsabers of the Sith, and a naïve young protagonist who feels destined for greater things, director Paul Young elegantly infuses “Screecher’s Reach” with modern Star Wars mythology amid an intimate journey of personal discovery. Daal, it would appear, is familiar with neither the Jedi nor the Sith. But in her, external forces see great potential. And once she’s traveled to Screecher’s Reach and faced her trial, nothing will ever be the same. Here are five highlights from “Screecher’s Reach,” now streaming on Disney+…

Visions Revisited: 5 Highlights from Sith

Here’s the latest from: StarWars.Com

By Dan Brooks

Star Wars: Visions Volume 2 kicks off with thrilling action and a unique take on the Force.

One of the biggest — and most welcome — surprises to come from Lucasfilm in recent years has been Star Wars: Visions. In the first season, or volume, of the series, the company set some of Japan’s best anime studios free in the Star Wars galaxy, untethered to previous storytelling or any established style. The results were creative and original, with takes on Star Wars that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise. Thankfully, the show is back, and it’s only expanded on its promise.

Volume 2, which arrived on May the 4th, casts a wider net, with studios of various disciplines from all over the world telling new stories. El Guiri Studios’ “Sith” opens Volume 2, and one has to imagine that was an intentional choice. Like a great opening track on an album, it makes a statement about the series and Volume 2 — that it’s different, that it has something to say, that chances will be taken. Directed by Rodrigo Blaas, “Sith” follows Lola, a former servant of the dark side trying to start anew. The short makes striking use of color to illustrate its themes, as Lola sees the world as a blank canvas, her struggle to find balance illustrated in her attempts to paint. It also has some fantastic action. “Sith” is everything Visions is meant to be, and a memorable Star Wars tale to boot. Here are five highlights from “Sith,” now streaming on Disney+…
