Rosario Dawson and Hayden Christensen first worked together on the 2003 journalism scandal film “Shattered Glass.” They’re back together on-screen in the “Star Wars” series “Ahsoka” as Ahsoka Tano and Anakin Skywalker, a character pairing first seen in the 2008 animated film “The Clone Wars.” The two actors sat down with AP entertainment journalist Leslie Ambriz to talk about their bond, the power of the “Star Wars” fandom — and their future in that galaxy far, far away.
An important force in creating one of the most iconic scenes in all of Star Wars has sadly passed away. Actress Maria De Aragon was behind the mask of Greedo in George Lucas’ original Star Wars film in 1977. She and Harrison Ford combined to great the infamous “Han Shoots Greedo” sequence that has become the subject of much change and debate over the years.
According to management company Coolwaters Productions, De Aragon died earlier this year at the age of 81, passing away in April of natural causes….
Sci-fi legend Sigourney Weaver has gone up against face-hugging aliens and squared off against colonizers on lush green planets, but she has never faced stormtroopers and galactic bounty hunters.
Until now.
Weaver is in talks to join the cast of The Mandalorian & Grogu, the first Star Wars movie to go into production since 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed…
A half-century ago when George Lucas decided to make “Star Wars,” a core visual effects team was handed a sizable challenge: Figure out a believable way to transport audiences to a galaxy far, far away. Essential to that goal was the development of a new type of motion control camera system: built in a Van Nuys warehouse where the production filmed space-set scenes such as the climatic trench run.
Now fans in Southern California can see the historic Dykstraflex camera system, newly restored and in working order, on display at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures starting Saturday in recognition of May the 4th, aka Star Wars day. The system weighs 1,500 lbs. and will be demonstrated by VFX vets with a 14-foot track and studio scale replicas of the Millennium Falcon, which is five-feet long, and a 20-inch X-Wing fighter…
Thank the Maker! George Lucas will be receiving the Honorary Palme d’Or at the Closing Ceremony of this year’s Cannes Film Festival, the organization announced today.
The event will take place on May 25, coincidentally, which marks the 47th anniversary of the release of Star Wars. It will be broadcast live on France Télévisions and Brut. and will be hosted by Camille Cottin. Last year, another Star Wars personality, Harrison Ford, was awarded the same prize while attending the first screening of the new Indiana Jones film…
Kathleen Kennedy will receive a prestigious producing award at this year’s Austin Film Festival.
The Lucasfilm president is set to receive the Polly Platt Award for producing during the festival in October. She will speak about her career during AFF’s Writers Conference.
Established in 2019, the award “is given annually to producers with a keen sense of story, who have a history of fostering new talent.”…
The epic Darth Maul vs. Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon Jinn duel. The thunderous Boonta Eve Podrace. The battle of Naboo. Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace is packed with moments best witnessed on the big screen, spooling back to the very beginning of the Skywalker Saga to depict Anakin Skywalker’s first encounter with the Jedi, the beginnings of the galactic civil war, and the menacing meddling of Palpatine. Well, good news: to mark 25 years since the film first hit cinemas in 1999, it’s coming back to cinemas later this year. Cue the fanfare!
This May the 4th weekend (so, from Friday 3 May), The Phantom Menace will be re-released in cinemas for a limited time, meaning you can revisit all your favourite moments as large and loud as George Lucas intended…
Former The Mandalorian actor Gina Carano, with financial backing from Elon Musk, has filed a lawsuit against Disney claiming she was wrongfully terminated from the show in 2021 and discriminated against for her political views and her gender. According to the complaint filed with the California federal court this week, Carano is not only seeking $75,000 in damages but also wants the court to force Disney to recast her on The Mandalorian, which would be an unprecedented turn of events for the entertainment industry and pretty ludicrous.
I’m no legal expert, but if Carano’s legal team were to somehow convince the court to rule that Disney had to bring her back as Cara Dune on a future show, how would that even work? What sort of welcome back would Carano expect to receive from a studio she reportedly has a toxic relationship with, not to mention the section of angry fans who wanted her off the series in the first place? And for just how long does Carano expect to be back on the show?…
Welcome back to “This Week, In a Galaxy Far, Far Away“, in what is likely going to be our saddest edition yet. It’d been a slow news week and though I initially struggled with finding a topic for today’s edition, I finally settled on discussing recent reports surrounding streaming data from Nielsen. But then, the news about Carl Weathers hit on Friday and I had to change course.
Before we get to all of that, some plugs for other stuff I was working on this week. It’s been a busy week at MovieNewsNet.com, where I reviewed three films from last week’s Sundance online edition: breakout hit A Real Pain, this year’s winner In the Summers, and Hulu’s Suncoast. I was also able to see the new Daisy Ridley movie Sometimes I Think About Dying, which was pretty good! (It’s slowly expanding to more and more theaters in the US.) Last but not least, I was finally able to complete my top 24 most anticipated movies of the year!…
Carl Weathers, who starred as Apollo Creed in the first four “Rocky” films opposite Sylvester Stallone, died Tuesday, his manager Matt Luber confirmed to Variety. He was 76.
Weathers also starred in 1987’s “Predator” and had a memorable role in Adam Sandler’s “Happy Gilmore.” He was nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his work in the “Star Wars” series “The Mandalorian.”…
We are one day away from Escape from Valo, the next novel in Phase 3 of the High Republic publishing initiative. That makes it an excellent time to look back at this phase’s launch before moving ahead. The Eye of Darkness was author George Mann’s first adult Star Wars novel. In it, he had the task of picking the story back up after the horrific events of The Fallen Star and the decimation of Starlight Beacon. Feel free to check out our non-spoiler review if you haven’t read it since the novel’s release in November.
I was lucky enough to speak with Mann about The Eye of Darkness, diving deep into the minutia of how he brought the first major chapter of this phase to life….
Welcome back to a new edition of “This Week, In a Galaxy Far, Far Away.” Is anyone else tired of seeing the same Ryan Gosling GIF from the Critics Choice Awards on social media? I thought so! It’s been an interesting week in Star Wars, for sure, even if we still have no news on The Bad Batch season 3 — although, according to Jennifer Corbett, something should get announced soon.
We have a lot to discuss today, as I’ll be running a status report on all confirmed Star Wars movies. As always, let me know your thoughts, opinions, comments, and complaints in the comments section or via our Contact page. The idea of these weekly articles is to have a direct connection with our readers as we recap the week in the franchise with some analysis of what’s going on. Let us begin…
In 2015, Marvel launched a new era of Star Wars comics. Mostly set between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back, Marvel’s Star Wars #1 by Jason Aaron hit shelves on January 14, 2015. One month later, Kieron Gillen’s Darth Vader #1 joined the party, and that’s when it began. The two ongoing series would crossover and eventually spawn a cacophony of titles for years to come. As of 2024, this epic has seen well over 300 issues of diverse and often great Star Wars stories brought to life (not including the dozens of other Star Wars titles out there). These tales would be canon, filling in the gaps of the original trilogy.
So that begs the question: how is anyone supposed to know where to start knowing that’s what they’re up against? If you’ve used any reading guide before, most will say there is no correct answer. With so many titles across every time period and continuity, you should begin with what interests you most. If you have a favorite character, pick a title where they are headlined…
Oh my, this has to be one of the best interpretations of Star Wars I think I have ever seen and needs to be shared. Originally posted at SWNN a group of fans have put together a recreation of the final duel from Revenge of the Sith and the animation, in the style of The Clone Wars is absolutely outstanding. But, I am not going to blab on and on.

Today, we’ll discuss Star Wars sequel trilogy plans and how Netflix’s big viewership data dump could affect the Streaming Wars.
This past week has been the traditional busy time where everyone is trying to get their things in order before the holiday break, and that also happened to me. So many things to do, so little sleep. Looking ahead, we have a few days before Christmas Day with a ton of new stuff, from Zack Snyder’s Star Wars wannabe Rebel Moon (which is getting destroyed by early reviews) to the event of the month for the Star Wars News Net *staff: the release of the Percy Jackson series on Disney Plus…

Young people today have no idea how hard it was to see the Star Wars Holiday Special in the days before the internet. I remember only being aware of the Holiday Special in the mid-nineties thanks to the occasional mention in Starlog or Sci-Fi Universe. In about 1996, some friends and I attended a Star Wars Convention in Montreal, and the big attraction was that they would be screening the Holiday Special in full on someone’s bootleg tape. My pals and I were so excited, but after all the years of reading about it and dreaming of what it could be like, we walked out after ten minutes. Nine minutes of unsubtitled Wookie was enough to turn us off, and to this day, I don’t think I’ve ever actually sat through the whole thing….
Portman appeared on Watch What Happens Live to promote her upcoming Netflix movie, May December, where she revealed that she’s interested in returning to Star Wars should the opportunity arrive. She admitted that “no one has asked,” but she has stated that “I’m open to it.” Portman added, “It was the first time I worked digitally. I don’t think anyone was shooting that way then. It was my first time working with a green screen. It was a whole new set of skills to pick up and a whole new world to enter.”…
“Star Wars” is good about keeping the content churning for fans: the franchise most recently released the highly anticipated third season of “The Mandalorian” in March, with several offshoots already in the works for the coming year, including “Skeleton Crew,” “The Acolyte” and “Lando.”
All the “Star Wars” content also means that there’s always new galactic-themed merch and gadgets to gift the biggest fans in your life. Below are 33 of the most unique, fun and nerdy (in the best way possibe) “Star Wars” goods to gift this year…
Happy Sunday, and welcome to another edition of “This Week, In a Galaxy Far, Far Away“. First of all, thank you to everyone who has been keeping up with this weekly series of articles recapping the latest in the Star Wars galaxy. I’ve been having so much fun writing them, and your support for the last edition has encouraged me to keep them coming! Please share with your friends if you enjoy it, and don’t be shy: Let me know what works, what doesn’t, and pitch any ideas you may have.
It’s been a relatively quiet week in the Star Wars galaxy, at least compared to last week, but we still had quite a few of interesting quotes from several people tied to the franchise. Let’s break it all down, beginning with three headlines you may have missed….
If you live in the US, I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday, and either way, I hope you had a wonderful week. It wasn’t a holiday where I live, but I still enjoyed some time tuning out the news and the entertainment business (other than watching Napoleon on Friday) for a few days. And though it seemed like it would be a slow week for Star Wars, it was most definitely not, as Lucasfilm and Daisy Ridley dropped a one-two-punch on Tuesday. The effects of these stories reverberated into the weekend with more interviews from Dave Filoni and Taika Waititi. Let’s try to unpack it all!
Star Wars Quote of the Week
“It’s not what I expected, but I’m very excited,” Daisy Ridley told Collider in a recent chat discussing her new feature film, which will mark the return of Rey Skywalker in a story set 15 years after The Rise of Skywalker. There is a lot to unpack from the few sentences she said about the project, but this is definitely the one that’s been circulating the most. Prior to this comment, she also pointed out that “The story is really cool”…
Rumors and supposed posters for a Star Wars “What If” Disney+ series releasing in 2024 have been circling on social media. But is there any truth to these claims?
Fanboy dreams, I think! -Max
Marvel Studios found success on Disney+ with its own What If…? series that visits other universes under the narration of The Watcher and presents alternate takes on the MCU’s 15-year saga of movies and shows.
Posts recently gained traction across social media, namely Facebook, featuring posters for a Star Wars “What If” series. Several of these sharing the rumor have claimed the alleged project is coming to Disney+ in 2024, and have showcased a number of alternate scenarios to go along with it…
Daisy Ridley has a lot going on these days, but she made a point to carve out some time to support The Marsh King’s Daughter, a film that was a promotional casualty of the now-resolved SAG-AFTRA strike. The English actor has plenty of reasons to be proud of her work in Neil Burger’s thriller, as she’s tasked with playing the psychologically complex and physical role of Helena. As a child, the character lived off the grid with her mother (Caren Pistorius) and father (Ben Mendelsohn) until she was abruptly and dramatically whisked away to lead a more civilized life.
Ridley shares the role with Brooklyn Prince, who plays young Helena in flashbacks. The two actors happened to have a viral moment in 2017, as Prince met Ridley backstage at Good Morning America. Ridley then surprised Prince once more during a The Florida Project Q&A with THR’s Scott Feinberg. And while it was a complete coincidence that the two were playing the same character in Marsh King’s Daughter, Ridley was amazed that they both portrayed Helena in a similar fashion…
Dave Filoni is expanding his footprint in a galaxy far, far away. The longtime Star Wars force has been named chief creative officer at Lucasfilm.
“In the past, in a lot of projects I would be brought into it, I would see it after it had already developed a good ways,” Filoni told Vanity Fair, which broke the news.
Filoni will now be involved in the early development on Star Wars projects, working with Lucasfilm head Kathleen Kennedy and head of development Carrie Beck….
“A Disturbance in the Force,” a comical behind-the-scenes documentary about the ill-fated 1978 “Star Wars Holiday Special,” will arrive from a galaxy far, far away in December.
After its premiere at this year’s SXSW Film Festival, “A Disturbance in the Force” will be released on digital and Blu-Ray on Dec. 5. This announcement comes on Life Day, a canonically Wookie holiday in the Star Wars universe.
The movie will also play in select theaters across the U.S., U.K. and Australia ahead of its home entertainment launch. September Club produced “A Disturbance in the Force” with Giant Pictures handling digital and Blu-ray distribution. Adam F. Goldberg served as executive producer…
Kevin Feige is no longer headed to a galaxy far, far away. The Marvel Studios boss, who was developing a Star Wars feature to produce, is moving on to other things as he focuses on the dozens of films and TV shows on his plate in the MCU.
When asked if his Star Wars feature was happening, he told Entertainment Tonightsimply: “No.” It was part of a larger interview at the Las Vegas premiere of The Marvels Tuesday…
Today, Ashley Eckstein is known for voicing one of the most popular “Star Wars” characters of the 21st century: Ahsoka Tano. The performer, who has won praise and recognition for her turn as the Togruta Jedi turned Rebel, surprised audiences when she made her debut in “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.” She quickly proved herself capable of not just kicking major butt in the “Star Wars” universe but also of being great enough to slip into existing canon without alienating picky fans of the original and prequel trilogies.
Since Ahsoka’s introduction, she’s become a massively popular character, starring in “Star Wars Rebels” and “Tales of the Jedi” and making the leap to live action, with Rosario Dawson putting on the head tails to embody the character. Ahsoka wasn’t always embraced by “Star Wars” fans, though…
Star Wars may be an action-packed space opera, but its extensive film roster and expanding list of Disney+ shows are also packed with humor.
Through the years, Star Wars’ unique use of levity and sarcasm has stood the test of time while certain lines have taken on a comical connection of their own.
So for Lucasfilm fans in need of a chuckle, The Direct compiled 12 funny quotes from the Star Wars film library (and in no particular order) guaranteed to “Force” a laugh…
