Get Over Yourself. You’re Luke Skywalker

Here’s the latest from Variety

Mark Hamill says Carrie Fisher once had to remind him where he came from.

During a recent interview on NPR’s “Fresh Air,” Hamill remembered that Fisher encouraged him to “embrace” his “Star Wars” roots after Hamill omitted the credit from a Broadway playbill.

“[Carrie Fisher] came to see a Broadway show of mine,” Hamill said. “And in the playbill, in my bio, I listed all my theater credits and at the end it said, ‘He’s also known for a series of popular space movies.’ And she goes, ‘What’s the deal? How come you don’t mention “Star Wars”?’ And I said, ‘Well, I want to show that I have a resume that includes extensive theater credits.’ And she said, ‘Hey, get over yourself. You’re Luke Skywalker. I’m Princess Leia. Embrace it.’”…

‘I Had My Time’ In the Star Wars Franchise

Here’s the latest from Variety

Don’t expect Mark Hamill to return to the “Star Wars” universe anytime soon.

In a recent interview with ComicBook, Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in the first three franchise-spawning “Star Wars” films, discussed his future in the immortal sci-fi universe. While he was the one to kick it off with “A New Hope” in 1977 alongside Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, Hamill has no interest in taking the saga any further.

“I am so grateful to George [Lucas] for letting me be a part of that back in the day, the humble days when George called ‘Star Wars’ ‘the most expensive low-budget movie ever made,’” he said. “We never expected it to become a permanent franchise and a part of pop culture like that. But my deal is, I had my time. I’m appreciative of that, but I think they should focus on the future and all the new characters.”…

Kennedy To Exit as Lucasfilm President At the End of the Year?

Here’s the latest from Star Wars News Net

A late-night shocker from Matt Belloni’s Puck newsletter — Kathleen Kennedy will step down as President of Lucasfilm by the end of the year, after more than 10 years at the top of the company.

According to the report, Kennedy had planned to step down by the end of 2024 (when her contract was also up), and had even set up an exit interview with a reporter, but eventually decided to stay for one more year. Three sources are telling Belloni that she has already informed Disney, as well as friends and associates. Both Disney and Kennedy’s personal publicist declined comment to Belloni. We have reached out to Lucasfilm, but will probably not hear back given the hour.

There is no information on succession as of yet. The official confirmation will probably wait, but other Hollywood trades might pick it up in the coming hours….

Rory McCann to Take Over As Baylan Skoll

It says something about the power of a performance that in a series featuring Ahsoka Tano, the return of Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker, and the live-action debut of Grand Admiral Thrawn, Ray Stevenson’s imperious turn as Force-sensitive mercenary Baylan Skoll proved the highlight of Ahsoka Season 1. And ever since the tragic news of Stevenson’s death broke in May 2023, fans have wondered how — and indeed if — one of the most compelling new characters we’ve seen in Star Wars since Disney’s takeover might live on. Now we have our answer. Per THR‘s reporting, Scottish actor Rory McCann is set to carry Baylan Skoll’s story forwards in Ahsoka Season 2.

Best known for his role as burly, sweary, code-bound curmudgeon Sandor ‘The Hound’ Clegane in HBO’s Game Of Thrones, McCann — a friend of Stevenson’s prior to his passing — has been brought up multiple times online in conversations about potential recastings for Skoll, with the 6’6″ Scot holding a similar hulking physicality,…

Disney Takes Star Wars Off 2026 Calendar

Source: Hollywood Reporter

Disney has removed a planned Star Wars movie from its 2026 release calendar, while the latest installment of a popular animated franchise will take that slot.

Ice Age 6 has now been slated to hit theaters on Dec. 18, 2026. Details of the Star Wars film that was initially set for that date had not been disclosed.

Disney announced last week that Simon Kinberg had been brought on to write and produce a Star Wars trilogy. Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy will also produce the trilogy, with sources telling The Hollywood Reporter at the time that the films would involve new characters and will not be a continuation of the previous Skywalker Saga that spanned Episodes 1 through of the sci-fi film franchise….

Why Lucasfilm Entrusted Simon Kinberg

Here’s the latest from Variety

When news broke on Thursday that Simon Kinberg — best known for being a writer, producer, director or all of the above on much of the “X-Men” franchise — had been hired by Lucasfilm to write and produce a new “Star Wars” trilogy, it came as a surprise to many executives at Lucasfilm and Disney. The project is considered internally to be in deep development and not nearly ready to be made public.

There was also some surprise within the wider industry that Lucasfilm had turned to Kinberg as the newest steward of “Star Wars” on the big screen. According to multiple industry sources with experience working in the franchise space, Kinberg is seen on one level as a sensible and safe choice….

Simon Kinberg to Write, Produce New Star Wars Trilogy for Lucasfilm

Source: Hollywood Reporter

Simon Kinberg is heading into hyperspace, signing an expansive deal to write and produce a Star Wars feature trilogy.

Kinberg would spearhead the launching of a new saga in the beloved galaxy far, far away, and will write the scripts for what Lucasfilm hopes would chart a brand new path forward for the sci-fi space opera universe.

Lucasfilm topper Kathleen Kennedy will also produce the new trilogy.

The new story is not meant to be a continuation of the Skywalker Saga, the name of the overall arc of the popular and pop culture-dominating Star Wars movies known as Episodes 1 through 9. The intent here is to have brand new characters and a new story, and not have it be a continuation, sources tell The Hollywood Reporter. (Although that does not mean that some characters could not or would not pop up.)…

Star Wars’ Rey Movie Loses Screenwriter

We’ve felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. Or, in other words, we’ve got some less-than-great news on one of our most hotly anticipated new Star Wars movies. You know that new Rey movie with Daisy Ridley that was announced at Star Wars Celebration last year? The one being directed by Ms. Marvel‘s Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and written by Steven Knight? Well, according to Variety‘s reporting, Knight has cancelled his trip to a galaxy far, far away and won’t be penning the picture after all.

Having previously replaced Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson on the project, which is set 15 years after the events of The Rise Of Skywalker, news of Knight’s departure comes as production ramps up on the prolific writer’s Peaky Blinders movie starring Cillian Murphy and Barry Keoghan. We’ve no word on the reason for Knight’s exit…

Disney delivered crushing blow in Gina Carano lawsuit

Disney has been delivered a crushing blow in its lawsuit battle with former The Mandalorian star Gina Carano.

The actor, 41, is suing the studio, alongside Lucasfilm, for discrimination and wrongful termination after the former MMA fighter was dropped from the Star Wars spin-off in February 2021 for sharing a social media post in which she appeared to compare the Republican experience in the US to that of Jewish people during the Holocaust.

Carano filed a complaint in California federal court, with help from X/Twitter owner Elon Musk, accusing the entertainment companies of damaging her reputation and discriminating her based on her gender. As part of the lawsuit, Carano questioned why the studios did not give similar treatment to her former co-star Pedro Pascal over posts he shared on topical subjects….

George Lucas Pays Tribute To James Earl Jones

The film industry just lost a titan – the legendary James Earl Jones, who passed away at the age of 93. And among his many iconic performances – in The Lion King, Conan The Barbarian, Coming To America, Field Of Dreams to name but a few – he will always hold the position of voicing Star Wars’ greatest villain: the inimitable Darth Vader. Across the original trilogy, plus Revenge Of The Sith, Rogue One, The Rise Of Skywalker and more, Jones lent his unmistakable boom to one of the all-time-great big screen baddies. And in the wake of his passing, the creator of Star Wars, George Lucas, has released a statement in tribute to the man who elevated Vader with his perfectly pitched performances.

As published on StarWars.com, Lucas said: “James was an incredible actor, a most unique voice both in art and spirit. For nearly half a century he was Darth Vader, but the secret to it all is he was a beautiful human being. He gave depth, sincerity and meaning to all his roles, amongst the most important being a devoted husband to the late Ceci and dad to Flynn. James will be missed by so many of us…friends and fans alike.”…

Gar Saxon – ‘Star Wars’ Character Spotlight

Here’s the latest from Star Wars News Net

We’re profiling Gar Saxon this week in our Star Wars Character Spotlight.

Gar Saxon was a Mandalorian of little moral integrity. Member of Clan Saxon and the Death Watch terrorist group, Gar recognized power and always sided with those he thought had the most of it at any given time. While most Star Wars fans likely remember him from Star Wars Rebels, Saxon also popped up in a couple of Clone Wars stories too. He was closely tied to Darth Maul and the darksaber.

Gar Saxon actually made his debut in the comic Darth Maul: Son of Dathomir, a story which was supposed to be part of The Clone Wars but got adapted into a four-issue comic miniseries instead, after the animated series’ temporary cancellation…

Aurra Sing – ‘Star Wars’ Character Spotlight

Here’s the latest from Star Wars News Net

Aurra Sing is the fearsome bounty hunter first glimpsed in The Phantom Menace who was then expanded upon in comics and novels. Like Cad Bane, she is a morally bankrupt bounty hunter who cares about little beyond getting paid no matter who she harms. Armed with a sniper rifle and built-in comlink antenna, she was a fearsome assassin.

While a lot of her Legends stories are no longer canon – which mainly means she no longer wields lightsabers – some fans might be surprised to know that she is still considered Force sensitive in current canon, considering George Lucas ignored that backstory completely when he used her in The Clone Wars

Star Wars Was Possible Thanks to This Camera

Here’s the latest from Variety

A half-century ago when George Lucas decided to make “Star Wars,” a core visual effects team was handed a sizable challenge: Figure out a believable way to transport audiences to a galaxy far, far away. Essential to that goal was the development of a new type of motion control camera system: built in a Van Nuys warehouse where the production filmed space-set scenes such as the climatic trench run.

Now fans in Southern California can see the historic Dykstraflex camera system, newly restored and in working order, on display at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures starting Saturday in recognition of May the 4th, aka Star Wars day. The system weighs 1,500 lbs. and will be demonstrated by VFX vets with a 14-foot track and studio scale replicas of the Millennium Falcon, which is five-feet long, and a 20-inch X-Wing fighter…
