The return of Orson Krennic and K-2SO, news on the big-screen adventure for The Mandalorian and Grogu, and the first trailer for Skeleton Crew brought cheers and applause from the crowd at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event.
During the Disney Studio Showcase, Skeleton Crew star Jude Law — who plays the enigmatic Jod Na Nawood — introduced the world’s first look at footage from the forthcoming series, created by Spider-Man Homecoming director Jon Watts and writer Christopher Ford. Following the adventures of four kids — Wim, Fern, KB, and Neel — the trailer gives us a glimpse at a mysterious discovery and the journey ahead as the foursome are hurtled into a strange and dangerous galaxy….

At next week’s D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, get ready to step inside your own Star Wars story through the magic of Stagecraft.

Throughout the event, Lucasfilm is excited to offer D23 attendees the opportunity to experience first-hand the magic of ILM StageCraft, the technology used to bring to life the worlds of The Mandalorian, Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka and more. Disney+ Pavilion
Stop by the Disney+ Pavilion during D23 for a chance to celebrate the streaming service and its full catalog of Star Wars offerings. Plus, get a preview of coming attractions with a Star Wars: Skeleton Crew photo opportunity inspired by the thrilling new live-action series debuting on Disney+ December 3. In the spirit of the Amblin coming-of-age films from the 1980s like The Goonies and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Skeleton Crew stars Jude Law, Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Kyriana Kratter, and Robert Timothy Smith. Series creators and head writers Jon Watts and Christopher Ford also serve as executive producers alongside Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson….

Today at D23 Expo 2022, Disney’s official fan event — the first since 2019 — Lucasfilm revealed new looks at several of its next releases, along with premiere dates, never-before-seen images, and more. In a special showcase led by Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, fans were treated to sneak peeks at everything from Andor to the fifth installment of Indiana Jones, with appearances from cast and creators, as well as a few surprises. There’s a lot to look forward to; see below for a rundown of all the big reveals!
Andor
Following a special in-room recap video and chat about the series, Andor star Diego Luna revealed a new trailer for the highly-anticipated show, arriving September 21 on Disney+ with a three-episode premiere.
Willow
The cast of Willow, including the titular wizard himself, Warwick Davis, gathered for a discussion about the fresh new take in the upcoming Disney+ series, with some significant reveals. Davis and company debuted the official poster and trailer — and in a surprise that delighted those in attendance, the legendary Christian Slater joined the panel, confirming his participation in Willow.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch
Clone Force 99 is back. Executive producer Dave Filoni confirmed that the second season of the animated series will arrive January 4, 2023, with a two-episode premiere on Disney+.
Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi
Announced at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim 2022, Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi is a six-part animated short series coming to Disney+. Dave Filoni confirmed at D23 that the series will arrive October 26, 2022, and debuted its first trailer, featuring looks at young Ahsoka Tano, an early Qui-Gon Jinn tale, and more.
Ahsoka
Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau treated fans in attendance to select early, in-production images from Ahsoka, the upcoming Disney+ series starring Rosario Dawson as the wandering former Jedi. Ahsoka is set to arrive in 2023.
Star Wars: Skeleton Crew
Currently in production, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will center around a group of children lost in space, and be set in the New Republic timeframe. Creators Jon Watts and Chris Ford joined Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni to present an in-room only first look at star Jude Law in the show — and also welcomed the actor onstage.
The Mandalorian
Our favorite clan of two will return! The Mandalorian creator Jon Favreau, executive producer Dave Filoni, star Pedro Pascal, and more talked about the Disney+ series, premiering a teaser trailer for the long-awaited Season 3, premiering in 2023.
Indiana Jones
Grab your fedora and whip. The fifth Indiana Jones film arrives June 30, 2023, exclusively in theaters, and director James Mangold was joined by stars Harrison Ford and Phoebe Waller-Bridge to debut an in-room only sizzle reel.

The Star Wars film hiatus after The Rise of Skywalker is set to continue for at least one year longer than initially anticipated.
After the underperformance of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Lucasfilm hit the pause button on Star Wars films ahead of the ninth Skywalker Saga episode to reassess the situation. Some projects have remained in limbo, such as a potential trilogy of films written and directed by The Last Jedi writer/director Rian Johnson (who has opted instead to focus on making sequels to his whodunit mystery film Knives Out), and a Rogue Squadron adaptation by Patty Jenkins (who has seemingly put the project on pause in favor of working on a third Wonder Woman film, which is expected to be her last). Other projects have been reworked into television series, with planned spin-offs for Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi and Temuera Morrison’s Boba Fett being turned into limited series with potential for more. There have been a number of films that have been placed into the pipeline with no word on whether or not they’ll move forward, such as Taika Waititi’s film (which may film as soon as early next year), and with Damon Lindelof speculated to be writing a Star Wars movie script right now.
Unfortunately, it seems like we’ll have to wait a bit longer to get news on the theatrical front. A recent report from the Puck News newsletter (run by former THR editor Matt Belloni) talked about what to expect at Disney D23 ahead of the opening Friday, and the picture painted says that Lucasfilm want to keep their cards to their vest until they’re completely confident in where to take the franchise next on a theatrical front. In short, don’t expect a new Star Wars movie to come out until 2024 or later. Check out a screencap of the newsletter below…
The future of Star Wars will be revealed in a few short weeks.
Seeds have been planted, and traces left behind in recent months. The Lucasfilm Studio Showcase panel at Star Wars Celebration wasn’t quite everything fans had hoped, only touching on imminent releases. For the Star Wars faithful, that will hopefully change at the D23 Fan Expo’s Hall D23 with a panel unveiling Disney’s upcoming slate of films and series.
As Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has made clear, the future of Star Wars is, for the time being, on television. That’s not to say the company is doing away with films – the contrary, actually. But it’s been a struggle for Kennedy to find storytellers willing to commit to several years for larger projects which, in addition to what’s now become routine creative issues, has led to delays in movie development.
Anything related to the silver screen was ignored at Celebration, with the event instead focusing on the shows. According to Kennedy, this was by design, and Star Wars’ theatrical future would be shared in a few months’ time… which is now.
With so much on the way, there will be plenty of updates to provide on previously announced titles… and also room to talk about some things that are new. Below are predictions for Star Wars projects that could be discussed at D23, both known and currently unearthed….
