When Ahsoka Tano first debuted in The Mandalorian‘s second season, most fans were not only excited but also relieved—it was about time one of Star Wars’ best characters finally got her due in live-action. Lucasfilm seemed to agree, as it didn’t take long for Rosario Dawson’s former Jedi to get her own streaming series.
It’s not clear what Ahsoka will be about specifically, but it does look to be following the plot threads left hanging by the animated fan-favorite series Star Wars: Rebels. This means that fans can expect to see familiar faces, including Ezra Bridger, who was missing the last fans heard of him.
But how might Ahsoka feel compared to all of the other Star Wars projects out there? Will it be the galaxy-spanning adventure of The Mandalorian? Or maybe something closer to The Book of Boba Fett?
Well, now, thanks to the franchise’s key creatives, fans might have a better idea of what to expect from Ahsoka Tano’s solo project….
Andor may feature a familiar character from a familiar Star Wars story, but Lucasfilm’s latest series for Disney+ is unlike any other fans have seen on the streamer thus far.
In addition to its 12-episode seasons with time jumps, Andor stands apart in that it’s more for adults than kids in both its content and complexity and is not a continuation of Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau’s ongoing Mando-Verse.
Instead, Andor is a product ofRogue One writer Tony Gilroy, and the first production to forgo The Volume and StageCraft for on-set locations.
But even though it differs from the likes of The Book of Boba Fett and The Mandalorian, audience response to these differences has been overwhelmingly positive. In fact, many already consider Andor one of the best Star Wars series to date.
However, while the Diego Luna-led series appears to be winning with fans and critics, it appears to be struggling in terms of audience demand.
How Andor’s Demand Compares to Other Disney+ Star Wars Series
According to Parrot Analytics’ Brandon Katz, data suggests that, despite Andor‘s success with fans and critics, audience demand for the series has been significantly lower than other Star Wars Disney+ series at relative points in their releases, including The Book of Boba Fett:
“The most disappointing trend I’ve come across recently is how audience demand for Andor is overwhelmingly lower than The Mandalorian S1-2, The Book of Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi despite the fact that it is easily the best Star Wars series BY FAR.”
Katz’s claim of how the demand for Andor is “overwhelmingly lower” than Lucasfilm’s other Star Wars series when they were airing can be seen in the graph below…

Currently in production, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew will center around a group of children lost in space, and be set in the New Republic timeframe. Star Wars: The Last Jedi is easily one of the most controversial movies to hit pop culture in a long time. Not only was it a long-awaited sequel, it brought back Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker for the first time since the original movies—but when it finally hit theaters, many had a long list of problems with it.
Among the many problems, audiences felt the movie had include how Luke Skywalker’s characterization felt off, the unsatisfying death of Snoke, Holdo’s frustrating communication, Rey’s nobody-heritage, and much more.
In an interview with Den of Geek. Hamill himself admitted some discontent without how things went down, including how “it was a big mistake that [Luke, Leia, and Han] were never [going to] reunite in any way” thanks to both Han and Luke being dead by the end of The Last Jedi.
Despite everything, Johnson has recently noted how he’s “even more proud of it five years [later],” even despite the “actively hostile and toxic” online culture that gravitated towards his movie—which he made clear is not necessarily from actual “Star Wars fans who didn’t like the movie.” …
The future of Star Wars will be revealed in a few short weeks.
Seeds have been planted, and traces left behind in recent months. The Lucasfilm Studio Showcase panel at Star Wars Celebration wasn’t quite everything fans had hoped, only touching on imminent releases. For the Star Wars faithful, that will hopefully change at the D23 Fan Expo’s Hall D23 with a panel unveiling Disney’s upcoming slate of films and series.
As Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy has made clear, the future of Star Wars is, for the time being, on television. That’s not to say the company is doing away with films – the contrary, actually. But it’s been a struggle for Kennedy to find storytellers willing to commit to several years for larger projects which, in addition to what’s now become routine creative issues, has led to delays in movie development.
Anything related to the silver screen was ignored at Celebration, with the event instead focusing on the shows. According to Kennedy, this was by design, and Star Wars’ theatrical future would be shared in a few months’ time… which is now.
With so much on the way, there will be plenty of updates to provide on previously announced titles… and also room to talk about some things that are new. Below are predictions for Star Wars projects that could be discussed at D23, both known and currently unearthed….
John Boyega’s issues with the Star Wars franchise are well documented. The actor has previously voiced his frustration with Lucasfilm, at one point specifically noting how “they gave all the nuance to Adam Driver… [and] Daisy Ridley,” but not his own character of Finn.
Of course, that’s far from the only thing the actor has said on the record. In an Instagram post, the actor commented, “lol no thank you,” in response to a commenter who suggested another appearance in Star Wars, even further declaring that “[he’s] moved on.”
All of his negative comments regarding his time in the franchise even drew the attention of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy. According to Boyega, the two had a “really nice, transparent, honest conversation,” where she “verbally showed support.”
But as nice as that sounds, does it increase the chances the actor may return to his role of Finn at any point in the future?:…
The rebellion era in the galaxy far, far away has never been more popular. Ever since Star Wars: Rebels began airing in 2014, Lucasfilm has consistently found new avenues to explore in the 19 years between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Coming off the heels of Obi-Wan Kenobi, which featured seeds of revolution against the Empire, Star Wars: Andor looks to continue this trend.
Six years after Rogue One: A Star Wars Story graced the silver screen, fans will finally get to see a prequel story about one of the movie’s main protagonists: Cassian Andor. Tony Gilroy, who co-wrote Rogue One, is back to serve as a writer, director, and showrunner for the series.
Not only does the show look to expand upon Andor’s refugee backstory, but it seems to be telling a grander story about the origin of the Rebel Alliance as a whole and the Empire’s iron grip on the galaxy. While audiences saw pieces of this story in Rebels, it was mainly from the perspective of one rebel pocket. Andor, on the other hand, seems the delving into the centerpieces that bring the Alliance together.
Besides ending with some disappointing news, Andor’s official trailer wowed viewers with breathtaking visuals and new locations. On top of that, it offered an intriguing look at the show’s lead characters, one of whom may be the source of a potential continuity issue….
The Mandalorian may be the story of a bounty hunter turned father figure to a mysterious Jedi youngling, but it will always be remembered for the revival of original trilogy-era Luke Skywalker. In The Mandalorian‘s Season 2 finale, titled “The Rescue,” fans witnessed the return of a young Luke Skywalker for the first time in 37 years courtesy of de-aging tech.
But even though the cameo was a huge hit with fans, Luke’s final look was not. In fact, many fans felt Lucasfilm’s digital de-aging was subpar to what artists achieved online; and the studio took notice.
After Lucasfilm hired YouTuber and deepfake artist Shamook as a Senior Facial Capture Artist, Luke returned to the Mandoverse in The Book of Boba Fett, where new digital de-aging and deepfake techniques vastly improved the reception for the son of Skywalker.
Now, Lucasfilm is pulling back the curtain on just how they improved Luke’s look from The Mandalorian to The Book of Boba Fett….
Next year, Lucasfilm and Disney+ will bring Rosario Dawson into her own solo series as Ahsoka Tano, aptly going under the title of Ahsoka for the streaming series. This will serve as a spin-off from both the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Dawson’s debut as Ahsoka in The Mandalorian as fans hope to see a number of key plot threads revisited next year.
One of the biggest threads that remains unanswered is the mystery behind Grand Admiral Thrawn, who was last seen fighting Ahsoka and her cohorts in Star Wars: Rebels. Rumors have even teased that Thrawn was set for his live-action debut in Ahsoka, although no specific casting announcement has been made ahead of the series’ release.
With no plot details confirmed for Ahsoka as filming continues to move forward, Thrawn remains one of the fans’ biggest questions, especially with his absence in the story since his last appearance in Rebels. Thankfully, in her latest public appearance, starring actress Rosario Dawson seemed to answer some of those questions when asked about the villain’s place in the story….
