That’s No Moon, It’s The LEGO Group’s Latest Death Star Set

Here’s the latest from: StarWars.Com

César Soares, master model designer with the LEGO Group, takes StarWars.com inside the reimagined LEGO® Star Wars Death Star – Ultimate Collector Series.

By Paige Lyman

César Soares, master model designer at the LEGO Group, led the reimagining of one of the most anticipated LEGO® Star Wars sets — the LEGO Star Wars Death Star – Ultimate Collector Series — for three years. The final result, available now, is a diorama model set featuring 9,023 pieces and sitting at an impressive (most impressive) 20.6 inches high, 18.9 inches wide, and 15.1 inches deep. Three different Star Wars films (and a hidden nod to Andor!) have been merged together to bring iconic scenes to life — with the help of the set’s 38 LEGO minifigures, the largest single-set minifigure lineup in LEGO brand history.

Like many LEGO set designers before him, Soares found inspiration in existing sets. “The previous diorama sets were certainly an inspiration for this model. But, more than that, these previous sets showed us that builders and fans really appreciate this type of intricate, detailed-oriented model,” Soares tells StarWars.com…

Behind the Scenes of LEGO Star Wars

Here’s the latest from: StarWars.Com

The creators and cast of the latest Disney+ four-piece series share their love for Star Wars, found family, and all things LEGO.

By Katarina Cruz

Adding a distinctive flair to the characters of LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past was both the work of the script and spontaneity. Actor Sam Witwer, who voices Maul here and in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Star Wars Rebels, and the forthcoming Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, brought just the right attitude needed for the oh-so-fabulous anti-Sith.

Tony Revolori, the voice of Dev Greebling, recalled the inception of the fan-favorite scene, watching Witwer improv Maul’s musical talents. “He was doing this moment where he was like, ‘Hey guys, wouldn’t it be funny if I sang the ‘Duel of the Fates’ theme with ‘It’s fabulous! It’s so fabulous’?’ It was hilarious.”

“The Maul voice is inherently so dark and twisted and evil-sounding — how do you put a nice spin on it?” adds Benji Samit, co-writer and executive producer on the series. “So, we played around. I remember that first session with Sam, we were just playing off different ways to do it, and he pretty quickly locked into it, and it is so, so good.” So good, in fact, that Samit’s writing and producing partner, Dan Hernandez noted “we actually had to rerecord that line later because we wanted more.”

With LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past now on Disney+, we recently sat down with the cast and crew to talk about their favorite memories from creating the four-piece special…

LEGO Star Wars projects have a tradition of mixing and mashing up classic Star Wars favorites with a twist (say hello to Darth Jar Jar and even a dark side version of Nubs!) with original characters, vehicles, and just pure zaniness. Pieces of the Past continues the adventures of Sig Greebling, a Force-sensitive nerf herder whose world was turned upside down in 2024’s LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy, now on Disney+…

Coming March 1 and available now for pre-order, the sets include a new Starship Collection line featuring brand-new builds inspired by the Millennium Falcon and the Invisible Hand starships; not one but two building sets inspired by the Tantive IV ship; and a special 25th anniversary edition building set honoring R2-D2. Building the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special

Here’s the latest from: StarWars.Com

Executive producers James Waugh and Josh Rimes reveal never-before-seen concept art and look back at the modern holiday classic.

It was the early days of Disney+. Lucasfilm had the opportunity to tell new stories for the fledgling streaming service, and inspiration could come from anywhere. Even playtime.

“There was a moment with our LEGO partnership where we wanted to reassess all we’d done before and challenge ourselves to see if we could find a fresh new expression of that collaboration, and a way to lean more into the way kids play with their LEGO Star Wars toys — they dump them on the floor and mix and match them. They’re not timeline dependent. We wanted to unlock that whimsy and wonder that’s unique to LEGO play in our linear content, and find a way to celebrate that experience in our storytelling,” James Waugh, SVP, franchise content and strategy at Lucasfilm, tells StarWars.com. “With the opportunity to do a special, we really realized that if it’s going to be a once a year experience, there’s something that just resonates about timeless holiday specials and the idea that, looking back, I think we all have pretty fond memories of specials that we watch every year over and over, that became tradition. We thought how great would it be to do that with LEGO Star Wars.”…

3 New LEGO Star Wars Shorts

Here’s the latest from: StarWars.Com

Lucasfilm’s Jason Stein and writer David Shayne talk to StarWars.com about bringing galactic cheer with these charming tales.

It’s time for jingle bells…and LEGO bricks!

Lucasfilm and the LEGO Group released today three new holiday-themed LEGO Star Wars shorts, all clever stories of celebration in the galaxy far, far away. There are two non-verbal tales: “Chewie’s Holiday Cheer Up,” which finds Chewie’s friends plotting a Life Day surprise for their Wookiee pal, and “Tenoo Treasures,” set during the High Republic era, which sees Yoda recruiting Padawans Kai and Lys from Star Wars: Young Jedi Adventures for some wreath building. “’Twas the Night Before Life Day,” featuring full voice acting, tells of a white bantha game on the Death Star — that is heavily tilted in the Emperor’s favor. The all-ages shorts are filled with themes of friendship and giving, as well as LEGO Star Wars’ classic brand of humor and in-jokes, making for a most impressive addition to your holiday viewing this year. You can watch them below, and read exclusive commentary from the Lucasfilm’s Franchise Content & Strategy team Jason Stein and “’Twas the Night Before Life Day” writer David Shayne…

First Look: The New LEGO Star Wars UCS Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser

Here’s the latest from: StarWars.Com

LEGO Star Wars designer Hans Burkhard Schlömer takes StarWars.com inside the massive building set.

Thanks to the LEGO Group, the Separatists don’t stand a chance.

The Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser — one of the largest ships of the Clone Wars era — is getting the LEGO Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series treatment, bringing the iconic vessel to life as a large-scale model. Coming October 1 exclusively at LEGO.com and at LEGO Stores, it’s a massive release in the UCS tradition, consisting of 5,374 pieces and measuring over 12.5 in. (32 cm) high, 43 in. (109 cm) long, and 21 in. (54 cm) wide. The building set also comes packed with Captain Rex and Admiral Yularen LEGO minifigures — essential leaders in any galactic LEGO brick battle. So make some room in your fleet, or on your display shelf.

First introduced in the iconic opening sequence of Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith in the Battle of Coruscant, the Republic Attack Cruiser would go on to be featured throughout the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series and other tales across mediums. A proto-Star Destroyer, it also represented the Republic’s transformation into the Galactic Empire…

Inside the LEGO Group’s New Star Wars: Return of the Jedi 40th Anniversary Dioramas

Here’s the latest from: StarWars.Com

By Dan Brooks

You want these, don’t you?

If you love LEGO Star Wars and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, the answer is yes. Revealed just ahead of Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023, the LEGO Group has created two dynamic new releases celebrating the 40th anniversary of Episode VI: the Endor Speeder Chase Diorama and the Emperor’s Throne Room Diorama, building sets immortalizing two of the film’s most iconic sequences in LEGO bricks. They arrive May 1 and will be available for pre-order soon.

Both sets were designed for adult fans and make for great display pieces, while still allowing for interactivity. The Speeder Chase set consists of 608 pieces, and includes three LEGO minifigures (Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker and a Scout Trooper), two removable speeder bikes with transparent stands (allowing the bikes to tilt, conveying movement), two buildable trees, and more forest elements. The Throne Room, an 807-piece release, includes Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, and Emperor Palpatine minifigures (complete with lightsabers and Sith lightning), rotating throne, and more. Both sets also feature a plaque with the Return of the Jedi 40th anniversary logo and a memorable quote from each scene. For fans of the last film in the original trilogy, it is pointless to resist — as Darth Vader himself says in the movie…

LEGO Star Wars BD-1: 4 Things We Love

Here’s the latest from: StarWars.Com

Cal Kestis’ loyal and adorable droid companion comes to life in a rewarding build.
Bria LaVorgna

There are a lot of reasons to love Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. The story is compelling, the gameplay is fun and rich. However, if you’re like me, the absolute best part of the game came in the form of Cal Kestis’ pint-sized little droid buddy, BD-1. He’s adorable, a fount of useful knowledge about Cal’s world, and extremely helpful in some sticky combat situations. In a galaxy of some truly remarkable droid friends, BD-1 ranks right up there among the best of the best. There’s no better partner a Jedi in hiding could possibly ask for.

That’s why when the LEGO Group announced its BD-1 back at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim 2022 earlier this year, I immediately pre-ordered him and then began counting down the days until his release several months later. His eventual arrival in August was the Star Wars event of the summer in this household; here are four reasons BD-1 was worth the wait and is an excellent LEGO set….

From A Certain Point Of View: Would You Rather Serve LEGO Or Live-Action Palpatine?

Here’s the latest from: starwars.com

Two starwars.com writers debate working for the Ruler of the Beach or the ruler of the Empire.

James Floyd and Mark Newbold

One of the great things about Star Wars is that it inspires endless debates and opinions on a wide array of topics. Best bounty hunter? Most powerful Jedi? Does Salacious Crumb have the best haircut in the saga? In that spirit, starwars.com presents From a Certain Point of View: a series of point-counterpoints on some of the biggest — and most fun — Star Wars issues. In this installment celebrating the LEGO Star Wars Summer Vacation, two starwars.com writers duel it out over which master to serve: live-action Sheev or LEGO Palpatine.

Sign me up to follow the Galaxy’s Best (LEGO) Emperor, says Mark.

It’s possible to be a believer in liberty and freedom and still have a grudging respect for the long-gestating masterplan of Sheev Palpatine. From Senator of the Mid Rim world of Naboo to the most powerful seat in the cosmos, the scheming, the machinations, the manipulations, the devious brilliance of a plan that was so exacting it had 65 orders before the infamous 66th….it’s easy to admire. Consider the planning, the ability to constantly pivot between publicly leading a Galactic Republic while at the same time orchestrating a Separatist movement from the shadows. The Emperor of the flesh and blood Star Wars saga was an impressive operator, arguably the most tactically astute leader the galaxy has ever seen.

However….I’d stand behind the LEGO incarnation of Sheev Palpatine ahead of the ‘real’ one any day. When Darth Vader gifted his Emperor with a “Galaxy’s Best Emperor” mug? Palpatine — as was often the case — was offended by the implication that in order to be the best Emperor, there had to be other Emperors to compete against. That wasn’t what Vader intended. LEGO Sheev was the one, true Emperor, but in this particular stand-off of LEGO Emperor versus his flesh-and-blood equivalent, the brick does the trick.

Let’s look at some of the reasons for his obvious superiority:…

LEGO Star Wars Summer Vacation has arrived on Disney+, telling an all-new tale in which Finn and friends take a trip on the luxurious Halcyon starcruiser for a long-overdue break. As the journey begins, Finn becomes separated from the group and encounters the Force ghosts of three legends of the galaxy far, far away: Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Leia Organa. Their stories of summer teach Finn a valuable lesson, but these yarns also feature something else: enough Easter eggs to fill a spacecruiser! As such, starwars.com scoured LEGO Star Wars Summer Vacation — and even consulted with Lucasfilm’s Leland Chee, one of the creatives behind the original special, as well as writer/executive producer David Shayne — to uncover as many in-jokes, story connections, and blink-and-you’ll-miss-it references as possible. LEGO Star Wars Summer Vacation Interview

Here’s the latest from The Official Star Wars Site :

The creative team behind the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special and LEGO Star Wars Terrifying Tales had always hoped to make a trilogy of animated specials. And Director Ken Cunningham really hoped the third installment could fulfill his dreams of helming a rollicking musical.

With the release of LEGO Star Wars Summer Vacation today on Disney+, the third special in the trifecta arrives complete with two musical numbers, including a new song sung by “Weird Al” Yankovic. Set in the time after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the story follows Finn and his friends on a luxury vacation aboard the Halcyon starcruiser. But instead of relaxing with a good book or enjoying the pool, Finn spends his time fretting about the future, which spurs visits from three Force ghosts who impart crucial lessons upon the young Force-sensitive hero.

Like its predecessors, collaborators at the LEGO Group, Lucasfilm, and Atomic Cartoons looked to favorite films and pop culture touch points to inspire the brick-based storytelling. “We were wrapping up Terrifying Tales and started talking about summer vacations and road trips,” recalls David Shayne, the writer behind all three specials.

“What are the iconic beach movies and summer movies?” producer Josh Rimes of Lucasfilm remembers asking the team. The first one that came to mind was the classic comedy National Lampoon’s Vacation. To translate the Griswold family road trip into the Star Wars galaxy, creators reimagined a very Solo family vacation. “It’s remembering our vacations and our road trips and what we went on and going, ‘What would that look like on the Millennium Falcon?’” says Shayne….
