Rumor: No New Movie Before 2024 At D23

The Star Wars film hiatus after The Rise of Skywalker is set to continue for at least one year longer than initially anticipated.

After the underperformance of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Lucasfilm hit the pause button on Star Wars films ahead of the ninth Skywalker Saga episode to reassess the situation. Some projects have remained in limbo, such as a potential trilogy of films written and directed by The Last Jedi writer/director Rian Johnson (who has opted instead to focus on making sequels to his whodunit mystery film Knives Out), and a Rogue Squadron adaptation by Patty Jenkins (who has seemingly put the project on pause in favor of working on a third Wonder Woman film, which is expected to be her last). Other projects have been reworked into television series, with planned spin-offs for Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi and Temuera Morrison’s Boba Fett being turned into limited series with potential for more. There have been a number of films that have been placed into the pipeline with no word on whether or not they’ll move forward, such as Taika Waititi’s film (which may film as soon as early next year), and with Damon Lindelof speculated to be writing a Star Wars movie script right now.

Unfortunately, it seems like we’ll have to wait a bit longer to get news on the theatrical front. A recent report from the Puck News newsletter (run by former THR editor Matt Belloni) talked about what to expect at Disney D23 ahead of the opening Friday, and the picture painted says that Lucasfilm want to keep their cards to their vest until they’re completely confident in where to take the franchise next on a theatrical front. In short, don’t expect a new Star Wars movie to come out until 2024 or later. Check out a screencap of the newsletter below…

Bad Batch S2 Gets New Release Date?

Here’s the latest from: The Direct – Star Wars

Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 2’s release frame is in a state of flummox. Lucasfilm originally announced the sophomore run to the hit animated series would debuted this fall during Celebration, with all indicators pointing a September 28 premiere. But the plan has seemingly changed, as the series was omitted from the September lineup of Disney+ releases.

Nearly every Star Wars streaming title not named The Mandalorian has had a scheduling reshuffle, and The Bad Batch appears to be no exception. With Andor being pushed back to a three-episode premiere on September 21, many have speculated that Lucasfilm is holding Bad Batch back a bit to create more separation between the year’s final shows.

But that delay could far more significant than anyone expected. A new rumor suggests that The Bad Batch‘s second season may not be happening in 2022 at all, but rather on the flip side of the new year….

How Breaking Bad Inspired New Star Wars: Andor Villain (Exclusive)

Here’s the latest from: The Direct – Star Wars

The Star Wars galaxy has always been filled with some of the most iconic villains in history, including the legendary Darth Vader. In the seven years since Disney took control of the galaxy far, far away, fans have already been treated to the likes of Kylo Ren, Moff Gideon, and Cad Bane, with several of these threats coming straight out of Disney+.

As Disney+ continues to be home to most of the Star Wars universe, the galaxy will soon expand again with Andor. The Rogue One prequel will revisit Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor in the years leading up to his ultimate sacrifice in the name of the Rebel cause, and that will undoubtedly lead to new Empire threats being introduced.

Among these antagonists are Kyle Soller’s Syril Karn and Denise Gough’s Dedra Meero, both of which will undoubtedly be causing plenty of trouble for Andor during his twelve-episode first season.

Ahead of the Disney+ series, Gough spoke to The Direct and revealed comparisons to one of television’s most famous villains….

Star Wars Reveals How Deepfakes Impacted New Luke Skywalker CGI

Here’s the latest from: The Direct – Star Wars

The Mandalorian may be the story of a bounty hunter turned father figure to a mysterious Jedi youngling, but it will always be remembered for the revival of original trilogy-era Luke Skywalker. In The Mandalorian‘s Season 2 finale, titled “The Rescue,” fans witnessed the return of a young Luke Skywalker for the first time in 37 years courtesy of de-aging tech.

But even though the cameo was a huge hit with fans, Luke’s final look was not. In fact, many fans felt Lucasfilm’s digital de-aging was subpar to what artists achieved online; and the studio took notice.

After Lucasfilm hired YouTuber and deepfake artist Shamook as a Senior Facial Capture Artist, Luke returned to the Mandoverse in The Book of Boba Fett, where new digital de-aging and deepfake techniques vastly improved the reception for the son of Skywalker.

Now, Lucasfilm is pulling back the curtain on just how they improved Luke’s look from The Mandalorian to The Book of Boba Fett….

SDCC 2022: New Star Wars: The High Republic Tales And More

Source: Official Site

5/10 reveals and first looks from the San Diego Comic-Con staple.

There’s a conflict brewing on Jedha, a nameless terror lurking in the galaxy, and a new class of Jedi heading to Star Wars: The High Republic later this year.During the Lucasfilm Publishing panel at San Diego Comic-Con this afternoon, creative director and moderator Michael Siglain was joined by eight Star Wars authors — Kristin Baver, Cecil Castellucci, Adam Christopher, Claudia Gray, George Mann, Beth Revis, Cavan Scott, and Kiersten White — reuniting to reveal book and comic covers, comic pages, and interior spreads from Phase II of The High Republic and beyond. Here are 10 reveals and first looks from the hour-long discussion.

1. We got our first look at the cover of Star Wars: The High Republic: The Battle of Jedha.

With a script by George Mann and a cover from artist Grant Griffin, the audio original story will take us back to the moon first glimpsed in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story for a new tale set during the apex of the Jedi Order.

2. But something wicked is plaguing the Jedi.

Mann will also pen the new Dark Horse limited series, Star Wars: The High Republic: The Nameless Terror. The first pages from artists Eduardo Mello and Ornella Savarese, introduce an array of new characters including a Bith Jedi!

3. Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures is returning.

During the panel, the cover of the new issue #1 from Dark Horse Comics was revealed featuring Sav Malagán and the tantalizing question: Padawan…or Pirate? The debut story will reunite writer Daniel José Older and illustrator Toni Bruno, with a cover by Harvey Tolibao.

4. We got our first look at the cover of Marvel’s Star Wars: The High Republic issue #2 and other issues heading to your local comic book shop this November.

Headed to a comic shop this fall, the second issue in the series once again features cover art by Ario Anindito and a story written by Cavan Scott.

And, we got our first look at cover art from Star Wars #29, Darth Vader #29, Doctor Aphra #26, Bounty Hunters #28, The Mandalorian #5, and Han Solo & Chewbacca #7.

5. Beth Revis showed us the rest of that dress from her new book, The Princess and The Scoundrel.

The full artwork from the cover of the forthcoming novel set after the events of Star Wars: Return of the Jedi gives us our first look at Han and Leia’s wedding, including the flowing gossamer gown worn by Princess Organa….
