Join Tony Gilroy for a Day at Lucasfilm

Here’s the latest from: StarWars.Com

The Andor showrunner recently joined K-2SO actor Alan Tudyk and supervising sound editor Margit Pfeiffer for a day at the company’s San Francisco headquarters.

By StarWars.com Team

Inside the lobby at Lucasfilm headquarters, fans flock to take pictures with Darth Vader’s armor and a statue of K-2SO, and attempt to further glimpse inside the hallowed halls. For a few lucky fans last Monday, however, stopping by led to a photo with the actual K-2SO, who was waiting to start a tour of his own.

Alan Tudyk, the acclaimed actor and man behind the machine, hadn’t been to Lucasfilm’s San Francisco campus since Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. “This is the coolest day ever,” beamed the father of the group, who had brought his two sons along for the Star Wars fun.

Joining Tudyk on his tour was Tony Gilroy, Andor’s creator and executive producer, and Pablo Hidalgo of the Lucasfilm Story Group, who led the duo on an in-depth look around the historic Presidio campus. “Do you get sick of me talking about you?” Gilroy jokingly asked Hidalgo, “I talk about you all the time.” Indeed, their close collaboration throughout the production of the show led to the appearance of Yavin 4 in early episodes of Season 2 and a new understanding of the “Tarkin Massacre” on Ghorman…

Lucasfilm Celebrates Life Day

Life Day — that Wookiee holiday season tradition that for decades primarily existed in the hearts of Star Wars fans — has in recent years attracted a bit of mainstream curiosity and adoration. This is thanks in large part to new merchandise, books, and media celebrating the holiday, which was first introduced when The Star Wars Holiday Special aired on November 17, 1978.

Since 2021, fans have counted on new Life Day merchandise to appear in U.S. Disney Parks in November, and Life Day-themed books and comics hitting store shelves around the same time. The holiday has also been featured in Star Wars: Young Jedi AdventuresThe LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special, and a Life Day Star Wars Lofi that can set the mood for any celebration hosted at home…

The Origins of Life Day

Here’s the latest from: StarWars.Com

Learn how a story element from an oft-maligned ‘70s TV special evolved into a cornerstone of the Star Wars galaxy.

Before you and your family gather your glowing orbs, don your ankle-length red smocks, and gather at the sacred tree to recite hallowed Shyriiwook verses in celebration of Life Day, let’s look back at the holiday’s origins. Not from within the Star Wars setting, mind you; rather, let’s examine its real-world history and evolution from an obscure TV source to an annual fan tradition.

The root of Life Day is found in The Star Wars Holiday Special, a star-studded 1978 prime time broadcast that aired on CBS once on November 17, 1978. After that broadcast, it was never to be (officially) seen again in the US and instead was relegated to bizarre cultural curiosity in the years that followed. The intent of the Holiday Special was to keep Star Wars in the public eye during the long three-year stretch between movies with new entertainment, using a tried-and-true television format of the 1970s: the variety special. The central premise of the show involved Han Solo trying to get Chewbacca to his family on Kashyyyk in time for Life Day, a sacred Wookiee holiday. Guest starring Bea Arthur, Harvey Korman, Diahann Carroll, Art Carney and Jefferson Starship, it was certainly something.Though we now know it as a Wookiee tradition, Life Day started off different in an untitled early outline for the Holiday Special, dated May 31, 1978: “… for one day each year, the galaxy celebrates the spirit of life and brotherhood with a festival. This year, it is the turn of the Wookiee planet to host the celebration…” In short order, the story streamlined things so that Life Day wasn’t a traveling event, but rather a wholly Wookiee holiday, tethered to the “Tree of Life” that grows in the Kashyyyk forest…

Star Wars Takes A Snow Day

Here’s the latest from: starwars.com

The art director behind the inspired new line tells starwars.com how a love of nostalgia led designers to reimagine Funko Pop! characters as hand-crafted snow sculptures.
Kristin Baver

The familiar wide eyes of the Funko Pop! line peer out from the latest incarnation of Jedi Master Yoda, but there’s something decidedly different about this version. For one thing, those big eyes appear to be lumps of coal. And his ears? Clearly just two carrots jutting out of an impishly carved snowball head.

starwars.com is delighted to share a closer look at the next wave of Funko Pop! bobbleheads, six Star Wars sculpts that will debut during Funko’s Festival of Fun today. To celebrate, we sat down with Funko art director Reis O’Brien to find out how a love of Star Wars and nostalgia led to the creation of the charming new figures, with twig-and-stone details topped off — at least in the case of a snowy Sith Lord — by Funko’s take on a discarded bath towel and an old belt….

Disney+ Day 2022 Predictions

Here’s the latest from: The Direct – Star Wars

It’s been three months since Star Wars Celebration, the last time fans received any major updates for the future of the galaxy far, far away. Since then, Obi-Wan Kenobi completed its limited run on Disney+, and Lucasfilm has turned its focus to its next streaming series, Andor, due in late September.

But the highly-anticipated show won’t be the only thing diehards have to look forward to. In fact, it’s just the beginning.

Disney will be holding the bi-annual D23 Expo convention in two weeks, which promises to bring a slew of information on upcoming Star Wars films, shows, and video games. But directly before the big weekend will be Disney+ Day on September 8, an event commemorating the streaming platform with exclusive reveals and special looks at titles in various stages of development.

Lucasfilm has already announced that Obi-Wan Kenobi: A Jedi Returns – a documentary following the behind-the-scenes process of the latest Star Wars series – will launch on the day. The company has teased special surprises to come throughout the day, a sign that the first wave of Star Wars news in months should precede the larger festivities at D23.

Important to bear in mind is that similar promises were made for the highly hyped event last year, and it wound up being a colossal embarrassment for Lucasfilm. Assuming they’ve learned their lesson from the infamous Disney- Day 2021, Star Wars fans have reason to be excited for the date marked on the Mouse’s calendar.

Any major announcements for new Disney+ shows are likely being reserved for the Hall D23 Presentation, which unfortunately won’t be live-streamed for those at home. Below are five Star Wars streaming projects fans can realistically look to Disney+ Day for updates and release windows….

This will be the second Disney Plus Day, following last year’s event that took place on November 12. Meanwhile, Marvel Studios announced multiple new projects and premiered quick teases for the three shows they planned to release in 2022….
