The Clone Wars Season 8 Almost Happened

Here’s the latest from: The Direct – Star Wars

By Klein Felt

Members of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars cast revealed that Season 8 of the hit animated series was much closer to happening than one may have expected.

The final seventh season of the series stunned fans back in 2020, with the show’s final batch of episodes hitting Disney+ before Star Wars said goodbye to the Clone Wars story.

And despite The Clone Wars being as beloved as it is (even winning the likes of Anakin Skywalker actor Hayden Christensen over), the series was no stranger to being on the chopping block during its seven-season run.

The series was thought to have been completed after its beloved sixth season; however, it came back for a seventh using incomplete story ideas from before and repurposing them into one batch of 12 cohesive series-closing episodes…

Star Wars Casts Doubt on Captain Rex Theory

Here’s the latest from: The Direct – Star Wars

By Jennifer McDonough

A popular theory regarding the fan-favorite clone trooper, Captain Rex, and a background character from Return of the Jedi might not hold as much water as it used to.

In the Star Wars Original Trilogy capper Return of the Jedi, the heroes venture to the forest moon of Endor to disable the Empire’s shield generator and help to obliterate the second Death Star.

The Rebel Alliance dispatches a team to Endor, consisting of Luke, Leia, and the other main characters, as well as a squad of ground troops. And among those soldiers is an older man with a distinctive white beard.

Then, several decades later, Captain Rex cropped up on the animated series Star Wars Rebels, sporting facial hair that made him look quite similar to that specific Endor trooper. This, of course, led fans to speculate and theorize that these two men were one and the same. But are they? Perhaps not, according to newly-revealed merchandise…

Mark Hamill Is Selling Signed ‘Star Wars’ Posters For Ukraine

The love and generosity of Mark Hamill knows no bounds.

Our very own Luke Skywalker is doing his bit to fight the evil Empire, as he announces his plans to raise money for Ukraine by selling signed Star Wars posters.

By his own admission, he doesn’t sell signed merchandise very often — this is the first time he’s done so in six years, back when The Last Jedi was coming out — but this is a special case, as he is one of a few celebrities to become an ambassador for Ukraine’s “Army of Drones”, stepping up when Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky asked him to join the fight against the “empire of evil” last September.

Only a limited amount of posters will be sold, and while it’s yet to be determined exactly how they will be sold, Hamill suggests that it will be via some kind of auction…

5 Major Ways The Mandalorian Season 3 Got Set Up In Boba Fett’s Spin-off

Here’s the latest from: The Direct – Star Wars

The Book of Boba Fett showcased Boba Fett’s rise to power on Tatooine while also setting up Season 3 of The Mandalorian in many different ways.

Pedro Pascal’s Din Djarin played a significant role in the final three episodes of The Book of Boba Fett, with Episodes 5 and 6 almost exclusively continuing his story from Season 2 of The Mandalorian.

Season 3 of the hit Disney+ series is set to premiere on the streaming service on March 1. Based on the trailers that have been released regarding the upcoming installment, the show will pick up where fans left Mando at the end of The Book of Boba Fett, so it is important to remember just how much the series will impact Din Djarin’s next solo run on Disney+…

Tales of the Jedi | Records An Increase in Viewer Demand

The release of the new season of The Bad Batch might have inspired people to revisit, or watch for the first time, last fall’s anthology series Tales of the Jedi.

This is according to data from Parrot Analytics published by The Wrap; the story says that in the week of Jan. 7-13 the company recorded an uptick of 5% in online demand for the series with respect to the previous week. This does not necessarily mean that the viewership numbers increased over this period of time, considering that Parrot Analytics gathers data from social media interactions about the series, articles published online about it, and even piracy. However, there is undoubtedly a correlation between online demand and viewership numbers…

Andor Star Teases ‘Even Better’ Season 2

Here’s the latest from: The Direct – Star Wars

Diego Luna, the man behind the leading character of Andor, teased that the upcoming second of the Star Wars series will be even better than the first.

While Season 1 might not have gotten the audience that series such as Obi-Wan Kenobi and The Book of Boba Fett did, its critical and fan reception blew both of those projects out of the water. Many have hailed Andor as being some of the best Star Wars content to date.

Production for Season 2 is already chugging along at full speed, and the talented individuals behind the scenes are hard at work on finishing the last half of the now-beloved project.

Tony Gilroy, one of the key producers and creatives behind the show, previously revealed that the second season will be “very different.” Though, he also made it clear that it’ll make the whole experience “feel really satisfying.” Now, Luna himself added to the hype…

Gina Carano Defends Herself from Star Wars Firing Backlash

Here’s the latest from: The Direct – Star Wars

Gina Carano, the controversy-ridden former star of the Star Wars Disney+ series, The Mandalorian, has spoken out against a contributor of The Hollywood Reporter.

For those who might not remember, the actress is known for having been let go from her role as Cara Dune in the Star Wars universe.

Leading up to her firing, Carano launched a series of Tweets that garnered a lot of attention—for all the wrong reasons. She mocked the idea of wearing a mask during the pandemic (a potentially life-saving habit), suggested that mass voter fraud occurred during the 2020 election (unequivocally false), and shared posts some viewed as transphobic.

To top it all off, the actress posted an antisemitic Instagram story where she compared being a conservative in 2021 to being a Jew during the Holocaust.

This then led to her removal from The Mandalorian—although an older report from The Hollywood Reporter claimed that Disney had been looking to get rid of her for some time.

After it all went down, Carano claimed to have been “bullied” by Walt Disney Studios. Though, she made sure to “[send] out a direct message of hope to everyone living in fear of cancelation” in light of her plights.

Now, after having developed and produced her own movie, she has some more words to share…

Lucasfilm Hires Pikachu Writers for Mystery Project

Here’s the latest from: The Direct – Star Wars

A new report seems to suggest that the writers of Detective Pikachu are working on a Star Wars project for Lucasfilm and Disney.

Ever since The Mandalorian, Star Wars content has exploded in the streaming world. While there may not be any recent movies, last year alone was home to three different series on Disney+: The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Andor.

This year will bring just as many, with several more already in production.

A recent rumor even revealed that yet another spinoff show is in development, hiding under the code name of “Ghost Track 17″—maybe the rumored Ezra Bridger show or even one focused on the villainous Thrawn?

But could the writers for this new show have just been revealed? At the very least, it seems clear that Lucasfilm has indeed hired more talent for its ever-expanding Star Wars Universe…

Bad Batch S2 Producers Address Canon Restrictions

Here’s the latest from: The Direct – Star Wars

Producers for Season 2 of Star Wars: The Bad Batch on Disney+ responded to questions of Star Wars canon restrictions.

While the time between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope went unexplored on-screen for years, that has all changed with Star Wars Rebels, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, and one of Lucasfilm’s latest animated series, Star Wars: The Bad Batch.

The series’ first season, which debuted in May of 2021 on Disney+, focused on experimental Clone Force 99 during the events of Order 66 and the early days of the Empire.

But since that inaugural season concluded, Lucasfilm has further explored this era with Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, and will continue to do the same with Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order sequel, Jedi: Survivor.

Out ahead of the The Bad Batch’s Season 2 premiere, the show’s producers commented on creating a new season while also respecting the ever-expanding Star Wars canon…

The Mandalorian Rumored to Bring Back Major Star Wars Character

Here’s the latest from: The Direct – Star Wars

According to a new report, fans should expect to see a big Star Wars character show up in some of the franchise’s upcoming Disney+ series.

The success of The Mandalorian all the way back in 2019 spurred a renaissance for the franchise and led to multiple shows being ordered. This includes next year’s Skeleton Crew and Ahsoka along with 2024’s The Acolyte.

These new projects have also given fans the opportunity to see characters in parts of the Star Wars timeline that have never been seen before. Some of the highlights come in the form of Ahsoka after Star Wars: Rebels, Obi-Wan before A New Hope, and Cad Bane after his days in The Clone Wars and Bad Batch.

The most recent project to hit Disney’s streaming service was Andor, which went on to be loved across the board. Now it seems a character within that series will be showing up in other entries further down the timeline…

Jude Law’s Mystery Role Revealed?

Here’s the latest from: The Direct – Star Wars

A new report has revealed some fresh insight into Jude Law’s Star Wars role.

Skeleton Crew is one of many Star Wars projects on the horizon, particularly in the streaming sphere. Fans were treated to a first look at the show’s production in September, and rumors about the potential plot have already begun circulating the internet.

But beyond a still photo and online speculation, any information about Jon Watt’s Skeleton Crew has been sparse.

Regardless, the only substantial and confirmed detail about the Disney+ show is that it will focus on a group of children traveling the galaxy and trying to make their way back home. Supposedly, the show will be a throwback in some form to 1980s “coming-of-age” classics like The Goonies and Stand By Me.

Now, a new report has shed some more light on how Jude Law will fit into the Disney+ project. This even includes some information about how The Goonies have shaped this highly anticipated, yet mysterious, Star Wars entry…

Disney+ Announces Historic Finale for Bad Batch Season 2 Release

Here’s the latest from: The Direct – Star Wars

Star Wars will take a new direction with the release of The Bad Batch during its run on Disney+, making history in the process.

Fans recently got their eyes on the first trailer for Season 2 of The Bad Batch thanks to an unexpected post on the main Disney+ website, showing the fandom what Hunter, Wrecker, Omega, and the team will have to face across the galaxy. This season will even include a couple of classic Star Wars clones like Commander Cody from the original trilogy and Captain Rex from The Clone Wars, touching on plenty of Star Wars story threads from the 21st century.

The show is set to arrive on Disney+ shortly after the new year begins, complete with the first two episodes both arriving on the streaming network on January 4.

But while a two-episode premiere is far from uncommon during Disney’s streaming era, The Bad Batch will take a more unique route with the release of later episodes as well…

Boba Fett Actor Wants Disney to Make Character ‘Badass’ Again

Here’s the latest from: The Direct – Star Wars

Boba Fett actor Temuera Morrison wants to bring back the old “badass” side of his Star Wars bounty hunter in the future.

Despite only enjoying a few minutes of screen time in Star Wars’ original trilogy, Boba Fett has always been one of the franchise’s most iconic characters. Recently, the popular bounty hunter was given a new lease of life on Disney+ as Jango Fett actor Temuera Morrison stepped into the role for The Mandalorian Season 2.

Across both his adventures with Din Djarin and his The Book of Boba Fett spin-off, Disney was criticized for not delivering enough of the badassery that the character has long been associated with. And clearly, the actor behind Fett agrees as he has revealed how he wants that to change going forward…
