Star Wars Actor Speaks On Problem With Luke Skywalker’s Sequel Trilogy Arc

Here’s the latest from: The Direct – Star Wars

The sequel trilogy remains a sizzling topic of discussion in the Star Wars community nearly three years after its conclusion, in no small part due to the words of actor John Boyega. Having brought Finn to life in the first cycle of films under the Disney umbrella, Boyega has been critical of both the direction the story took and his experiences on set as his character’s role deteriorated.

Such comments led to discussions with Disney executives and a phone call from Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, and for the time being all parties have seemingly buried the hatchet. With Finn’s story currently finished in The Rise of Skywalker, Boyega has served as an ambassador for Star Wars. He continues to support the franchise’s endeavors and recently voiced approval for the support Moses Ingram received following racist online comments in the lead-up to Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Though much is forgiven, Boyega isn’t without regrets – or designs of returning to the galaxy far, far away. Of late, the actor has been adamant that he won’t be donning a Resistance uniform again, in large part because he feels Finn’s story is finished. Boyega reaffirmed that position in a recent interview, and he shared some thoughts on places he’d liked to have seen the sequel trilogy go – most notably, with an iconic Jedi Master.

John Boyega Wanted More From Luke Skywalker…

The Ancient Dark Side Cult That Rivalled the Sith

The Sith may have been the most well known dark side users in the galaxy, but they are far from the only. We already know about the Nightsisters of Dathomir. We’re getting to know the Knights of Ren. But there was an ancient cult that went toe to toe with the Sith, and they were called the Ascendant.

How Breaking Bad Inspired New Star Wars: Andor Villain (Exclusive)

Here’s the latest from: The Direct – Star Wars

The Star Wars galaxy has always been filled with some of the most iconic villains in history, including the legendary Darth Vader. In the seven years since Disney took control of the galaxy far, far away, fans have already been treated to the likes of Kylo Ren, Moff Gideon, and Cad Bane, with several of these threats coming straight out of Disney+.

As Disney+ continues to be home to most of the Star Wars universe, the galaxy will soon expand again with Andor. The Rogue One prequel will revisit Diego Luna’s Cassian Andor in the years leading up to his ultimate sacrifice in the name of the Rebel cause, and that will undoubtedly lead to new Empire threats being introduced.

Among these antagonists are Kyle Soller’s Syril Karn and Denise Gough’s Dedra Meero, both of which will undoubtedly be causing plenty of trouble for Andor during his twelve-episode first season.

Ahead of the Disney+ series, Gough spoke to The Direct and revealed comparisons to one of television’s most famous villains….

Meet the Imperial Characters of Andor

I got the chance to interview two of the stars of Andor, Denise Gough and Kyle Soller, who play Dedre Meero and Syril Kam, two Imperial characters in the series. I asked them what organization Syril is part of, in the blue uniforms, and how they are related to Dedra’s character, but this is the entire interview, including all the questions from the other Star Wars content creators.

‘Andor’ Is The Most Grounded ‘Star Wars’ Can Get

Here’s the latest from: SWNN

New interviews with the cast and crew of the upcoming series Andor are teasing a more realistic Star Wars show than usual. The series will deal with the formation of the Rebel Alliance leading up to the Battle of Scarif and subsequently the Battle of Yavin, but ultimately, it will be a series about the people that formed the Rebellion.

In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Diego Luna was asked what Andor will explore that the rest of the Star Wars Disney Plus slate hasn’t. The actor responded:

“I wouldn’t say it that way. What I would say is that Andor is the most grounded Star Wars you’ll get. This is about the people. There’s no Jedi around, and it’s very dark times in the galaxy. It’s when the people have to come together, articulate a response, and work in communities because the Empire is growing and control is everywhere. People have been marginalized, and there’s no freedom. You have these communities having to react. It’s the most human that the experience of Star Wars can get. This Star Wars is about regular people like you and me, and I think that connection is going to be special. It’s the most realistic—if you can say realistic, because obviously, they live in a galaxy far, far away. But it should feel realistic to you, because we want that proximity. We want you to reflect [on] yourself with these characters on this journey.”…

Tony Gilroy Explains How ‘Andor’ Went From Five Seasons To Two

Here’s the latest from: SWNN

Details are a bit fuzzy at this point, but we know Diego Luna got the call from Tony Gilroy explaining the outline at some point in mid-2019, as the actor told Vanity Fair earlier this year, and he was instantly on board. (Bob Iger, Disney’s CEO at the time, had confirmed in late 2018 that Luna would be back in the role, when Schiff was still attached.) The series was reworked from the ground up, and it was originally going to run for five seasons, each one covering one year of Cassian’s life, leading to his introduction in Rogue One. However, after being in production of season 1 for two years, Gilroy realized that he couldn’t possibly do that four more times. He said:

“You just couldn’t possibly physically make five years of the show. I mean, Diego would be, like, 65. I’d be in a nursing home. We were panicked. We can’t sign on to this forever.”

His solution was simple but elegant. Instead of making four more seasons, Gilroy decided to crunch the outline for each season into a three-episode arc and make another twelve episodes that are essentially season 2. He borrowed the idea from the model they had already used for season 1, where each block of three episodes constitutes a singular story arc. Star Wars: The Clone Wars fans should already be used to this. He explained it to The Playlist as follows…

John Boyega Reveals If He’ll Be Back For Disney’s Star Wars Future

Here’s the latest from: The Direct – Star Wars

John Boyega’s issues with the Star Wars franchise are well documented. The actor has previously voiced his frustration with Lucasfilm, at one point specifically noting how “they gave all the nuance to Adam Driver… [and] Daisy Ridley,” but not his own character of Finn.

Of course, that’s far from the only thing the actor has said on the record. In an Instagram post, the actor commented, “lol no thank you,” in response to a commenter who suggested another appearance in Star Wars, even further declaring that “[he’s] moved on.”

All of his negative comments regarding his time in the franchise even drew the attention of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy. According to Boyega, the two had a “really nice, transparent, honest conversation,” where she “verbally showed support.”

But as nice as that sounds, does it increase the chances the actor may return to his role of Finn at any point in the future?:…

‘The Bad Batch’ Season 2 No Longer Releasing On September 28

Here’s the latest from: SWNN

Disney has released a list with all the content arriving on Disney Plus in September, including four episodes of Andor. Missing, however, is the upcoming season 2 of The Bad Batch, which the streamer accidentally revealed earlier this summer would start airing September 28. Neither Disney nor Lucasfilm ever announced this date on social media or through a press release.

There is no cause for panic, however, as Disney Plus probably wanted more space between Andor and The Bad Batch after they delayed the former a few weeks (it will have its three-episode premiere on September 21). A release date sometime in October or November is highly likely, and depending on how many episodes season 2 has, it could nicely bridge the gap between Andor and The Mandalorian, which returns with its third season in February 2023. A trailer for the new adventures of Hunter, Echo, Wrecker, Omega, and the rest of the gang debuted at Star Wars Celebration in late May, though no specific launch date was given.

Here is the current list of programs set for release on September 28, via the recently released Disney Plus schedule….

‘Knights Of The Old Republic’ Remake Confirmed To Be Shifting Studios To Saber Interactive

Here’s the latest from: SWNN

It’s now been confirmed that the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is in the hands of Saber Interactive after it faced development issues at Aspyr Media.

Last month, it was revealed that the Knights of the Old Republic – Remake game was being postponed indefinitely after representatives of Sony and Disney determined that the dev team on that project bit off more than they could chew, producing results that weren’t deemed satisfactory for that point in development on a tight time-table. The video game has been in the pipeline for approximately two years, and it was initially expected to be ready as soon as late 2022 or early 2023. More recently, official buzz confirmed that a new developer took over the project, albeit without a confirmation on who this new developer would be.

Bloomberg has been able to confirm that Saber Interactive, owned by Aspyr Media’s parent company, Embracer Group, will be the ones taking over development on the ambitious remake of the ground-breaking 2003 RPG from BioWare. The group was already working on the remake to assist their sister company, and now it seems as though they are making the transition to fully take over the project….

Claudia Gray Thinks A Sequel To ‘Lost Stars’ Will Happen Eventually

Here’s the latest from: SWNN

Seven years after it was released, Claudia Gray’s Lost Stars continues to be mentioned in conversations about Star Wars novels. Regarded as one of the best in new canon, it followed Ciena and Thane as a young couple that lived through the events of the original trilogy from both sides of the Galactic Civil War. On September 4, the book will have its 7th anniversary and Gray still believes a follow up to the popular love story will happen.

During a Q&A session at Emerald City Comic Con (hat tip to r/StarWarsLeaks), Claudia Gray was asked about whether or not we will get a sequel, to which the author responded:

”I firmly believe it’s gonna happen someday – we just have to see what lines up with their publishing schedules but I hear good things from them … I think it’s gonna happen.“…

‘Andor’: What We Know About The Story And How The Series Came To Be

Here’s the latest from: SWNN

We are less than a month away from the release of Andor, the new Star Wars live-action series centered around the title character that was first introduced in Rogue One. The series will also depict how the Rebel Alliance was formed in the five years leading up to the mission to steal the Death Star plans, and will include characters like Mon Mothma and Saw Gerrera.

Tony Gilroy is the series’ showrunner and main writer. As he revealed at Star Wars Celebration in May, Andor will be two seasons long, with the first year capturing the events of the first year in the aforementioned timeline, and the second season, the remaining four years. In his own words:

“The series is a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. It rewinds back five years from the events of Rogue One to follow Cassian Andor on his journey to get to the movie. We’ve done twelve episodes for the first season. The twelve episodes that we’ve done cover one year in time. We’re going to do another twelve that are going to take us over the next four years into Rogue One.”

Both Gilroy and lead actor Diego Luna have said multiple times over the past couple of months that the second and final season will lead us directly into the events of the movie, possibly hinting that the final scene in the show could see Cassian in the moments right before he’s introduced in the movie. “The final scene will walk you into Rogue One,” Gilroy said at Celebration….

Boba Fett Actor Admits He Put Less Effort Into The Prequels Than The Mandalorian

Here’s the latest from: The Direct – Star Wars

Boba Fett actor Temuera Morrison has got to be one of the luckiest actors in all of Hollywood. When he boarded Attack of the Clones in 2002, little did he know that his role as Jango Fett would go on to put him in a unique spot; the man is set for life when it comes to acting—and it only just truly picked up thanks to The Mandalorian.

Sure, then it was just Jango Fett. But in playing that one role, he then went on to be the one and only live-action actor for every clone to ever exist (or Fett family member). So not only did Morrison return to bring Boba Fett to life in The Mandalorian‘s second season, but he even got his own solo outing on Disney+. To add to that, if any other clone makes the transition to live-action, be it Rex, Echo, Fives, Borr, or countless others, then he’s the man Lucasfilm will go to.

One would have assumed that the actor really worked hard to get himself into such a big spot. However, according to the man himself, it seems he might have put a lot less effort into the prequel movies than anyone would have thought….

Star Wars: Andor Trailer Reveals Potential Rebels Canon Conflict

Here’s the latest from: The Direct – Star Wars

The rebellion era in the galaxy far, far away has never been more popular. Ever since Star Wars: Rebels began airing in 2014, Lucasfilm has consistently found new avenues to explore in the 19 years between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. Coming off the heels of Obi-Wan Kenobi, which featured seeds of revolution against the Empire, Star Wars: Andor looks to continue this trend.

Six years after Rogue One: A Star Wars Story graced the silver screen, fans will finally get to see a prequel story about one of the movie’s main protagonists: Cassian Andor. Tony Gilroy, who co-wrote Rogue One, is back to serve as a writer, director, and showrunner for the series.

Not only does the show look to expand upon Andor’s refugee backstory, but it seems to be telling a grander story about the origin of the Rebel Alliance as a whole and the Empire’s iron grip on the galaxy. While audiences saw pieces of this story in Rebels, it was mainly from the perspective of one rebel pocket. Andor, on the other hand, seems the delving into the centerpieces that bring the Alliance together.

Besides ending with some disappointing news, Andor’s official trailer wowed viewers with breathtaking visuals and new locations. On top of that, it offered an intriguing look at the show’s lead characters, one of whom may be the source of a potential continuity issue….

Star Wars Reveals How Deepfakes Impacted New Luke Skywalker CGI

Here’s the latest from: The Direct – Star Wars

The Mandalorian may be the story of a bounty hunter turned father figure to a mysterious Jedi youngling, but it will always be remembered for the revival of original trilogy-era Luke Skywalker. In The Mandalorian‘s Season 2 finale, titled “The Rescue,” fans witnessed the return of a young Luke Skywalker for the first time in 37 years courtesy of de-aging tech.

But even though the cameo was a huge hit with fans, Luke’s final look was not. In fact, many fans felt Lucasfilm’s digital de-aging was subpar to what artists achieved online; and the studio took notice.

After Lucasfilm hired YouTuber and deepfake artist Shamook as a Senior Facial Capture Artist, Luke returned to the Mandoverse in The Book of Boba Fett, where new digital de-aging and deepfake techniques vastly improved the reception for the son of Skywalker.

Now, Lucasfilm is pulling back the curtain on just how they improved Luke’s look from The Mandalorian to The Book of Boba Fett….

Star Wars: Ewan McGregor Gets Honest About Spoilery Leaks Online

Here’s the latest from: The Direct – Star Wars

One of the most anticipated projects to come from Lucasfilm in recent years was Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+. Set a decade after the events of Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan Kenobi was a sort of prequel reunion for both Obi-Wan’s Ewan McGregor and Anakin/Darth Vader’s Hayden Christensen while also a bridge between the prequel and original trilogies, given the presence of both young Leia and Luke Skywalker.

While Lucasfilm’s casting of a young Luke Skywalker was announced ahead of the show’s debut, young Leia – who was masterfully portrayed by Vivien Lyra Blair – was supposed to have been kept under wraps.

However, news of her role made its way online ahead of Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s May premiere, along with the news that the Jedi Master wouldn’t be on Tatooine as much as fans initially expected.

Now, Obi-Wan’s Ewan McGregor, who also served as the series executive producer, is speaking out about those leaks, as well as how its story changed over time.

During the Fan Expo Boston, as reported by ComicBook.com, Ewan McGregor compared Obi-Wan Kenobi leaks to “looking at your Christmas presents before Christmas Day:”

The Mandalorian Season 3 Cast: Every Actor Confirmed & Rumored To Appear

Here’s the latest from: The Direct – Star Wars

As the galaxy far, far away moves into 2023, fans will finally blast back into the Mandoverse with Season 3 of The Mandalorian in early 2023. This, as Mando fans all know, is the Way.

Lucasfilm’s debut Disney+ program continues its incredibly successful run after its first two seasons in 2019 and 2020, both of which earned massive acclaim with more than a dozen combined wins at the Emmys. Now, after a short break with The Book of Boba Fett in late 2021 and early 2022, Din Djarin, Grogu and crew will find their way back into the spotlight for another eight-episode adventure.

Season 3 came into full force to Star Wars Celebration 2022 in Anaheim, California in May 2022, with fans getting a first look at footage from the new season long before its full debut. Teasing an intense emotional journey for Mando with a journey back to Mandalore to ask for forgiveness for his transgressions, this next set of stories could be the biggest one to date since the show helped kick off Disney+’s streaming run.

The big question now is who exactly will play a role in Season 3 after so many new developments within the Star Wars universe. There are a few clear choices based on quotes from the actors involved and plot details expected to be used, and Star Wars Celebration attendees got confirmation of even more returning players from both Season 1 and Season 2.

With that being said, here are 13 Star Wars characters that are either confirmed or rumored to appear in Season 3 of Lucasfilm’s The Mandalorian….

What Leia’s Ring REALLY Means

You know that ring Leia wears in the sequel trilogy? Well it’s way more important than we thought! That’s actually the ring Han gave to Leia for their wedding. At the actual ceremony the Ewoks gave them rings made out of vines and hardened, gold amber. They were temporary, of course, but both Han and Leia loved them so much that he designed a ring that reminded them of the vines, and the two stones were meant to represent the two of them. I love that even though Han and Leia eventually separated after their son fell to the dark side, Leia continued to wear the ring. The two of them were still connected, even when they were apart. I always thought the ring itself looked cool, but now it has straight up changed how I view their relationship in the sequel trilogy.
