5 Things That Still Make No Sense About Darth Vader

In the opening minutes of 1977’s Star Wars, the stakes are made immediately clear, and one of the most iconic villains in film history was born as Darth Vader steps onto the screen. Played on screen by David Prowse and voiced by James Earl Jones, Vader would transcend the movie itself, not only becoming an iconic character aesthetically (he’s still a popular Halloween costume) but defining the potential for the popularity of antagonists in movies for the rest of time. Even three years later, with The Empire Strikes Back, Vader solidified his place as one of the best of all time after delivering one of the most unexpected movie lines ever.

Three years after Empire, though, Return of the Jedi would start to unravel the mystique of Darth Vader, not only unmasking the character for the first time but giving fans a taste of who he really was before he became the villain fans knew. Time has continued to tell more and more tales of Darth Vader, filling out the margins of the character’s persona and history, but also creating plot holes and inconsistencies. Darth Vader is still one of the greatest villains in fiction, but he’s also been made pretty confusing over the years…

The RARE Dueling Lightsaber That Went Completely EXTINCT

The lightfoil was one of the rarest and most elegant lightsaber variants in Star Wars Legends a dueling weapon forged in secrecy by a hidden Sith culture that valued mastery, wealth, and ritual combat above all else. Shorter than a standard lightsaber and designed to be wielded with one hand, the lightfoil was optimized exclusively for Form II: Makashi, emphasizing precision, footwork, and one-on-one duels rather than battlefield warfare. In this video, we explore the obscure origins of the lightfoil, its connection to the Mecrosa Order and Sith-aligned noble houses, why its creators eventually vanished, and how their obsession with beauty, refinement, and ritual ultimately led to both the creation of the most beautiful Sith lightsabers ever forged and their own self-destruction.

Two Kenner Star Wars Action Figures That Changed During the Design Process!

Here’s the latest from Rancho Obi-Wan

At the Imperial Archives, one of our favorite categories is unproduced toys. This includes toys that were designed and never released, as well as toys that changed substantially during the design process. Let’s take a look at two Kenner Star Wars action figures that fall into the latter category. Each figure is represented in our collection in the form of both a preproduction drawing and an unpainted hardcopy prototype.

First up is an early “uncloaked” version of The Emperor from the vintage Return of the Jedi action figure line.

Star Wars fans who had the original Emperor action figure that was sold in stores will likely recall that the cloak was molded onto the body as part of the figure, but that wasn’t the initial plan.

The Myth That Rogue One Shattered

At its conception in 1977, Star Wars was effectively a blend of mythology, history, and George Lucas’s favorite movies– a combination that would more or less persist through the rest of Lucas’s saga. But by the time of Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm, and pre-production on the first Star Wars spin-off film began, a new team of Star Wars creatives– led by director Gareth Edwards and writer Gary Whitta– would shake the storytelling foundations of the series in unprecedented fashion. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story would not only tell the story of the Rebel spies who stole the secret plans to the Death Star, but boldly ask the question: what if you removed the myth from Star Wars?

Genevieve O’Reilly on That Speech

Here’s the latest from: StarWars.Com

An inside look into how the Imperial senator’s secret life as a rebel was revealed on screen

By Amy Richau

After playing her for more than two decades, Genevieve O’Reilly knows Mon Mothma better than anyone. That expertise shows through in her nuanced portrayal of the rebel senator in Andor Season 2. And much like her character, behind the scenes, O’Reilly advocated for what she felt was right when it came to two of Mothma’s most significant story moments this season, working with creator and executive producer Tony Gilroy to ensure viewers saw the intimate pain of Mothma’s personal sacrifice and the public pronouncement of her declaration of war against Emperor Palpatine, both in their full glory.

An emotionally fraught wedding at the start of the season and Mon Mothma’s epic final speech in the Imperial Senate chamber in the latest episode took center stage in Andor Season 2. Now with the final three episodes arriving next week to mark the series finale, Genevieve O’Reilly speaks with StarWars.com about returning to play Mon Mothma during some of the most challenging and dangerous moments of her life.

“I’ve never done anything like that before,” O’Reilly says about the structure of Andor’s second season. “Each three episodes jumping a year, almost like a window into life for a day or weekend. A slice of life.”…

The STAR WARS That Never Was

Rebel Force Radio: Audio Podcast

As George Lucas was in his final years at Lucasfilm, he had some projects in the pipeline and on the verge of release, but they never happened. Via new interview highlights with producer Rick McCallum and writer Ronald D. Moore, we learn more about STAR WARS UNDERWORLD, the live-action STAR WARS TV show that had 50-60 fully written scripts ready-to-go, but was eventually abandoned. And Seth Green recently shared info about the fully-produced, but never-released animated comedy series STAR WARS DETOURS. These key creatives discussed their experiences working with Lucas on those shows and why fans will never get the chance to see them. In other news, we review interview clips of Daisy Ridley and screenwriter Stephen Knight talking about the ever-in-development “New Jedi Order” film featuring Rey. Plus, we discuss potential STAR WARS animated projects that may be in the works, “Star Wars in Pop Culture” features Mark Hamill on “Space Ghost Coast-to-Coast”, and we have a huge announcement about the next RFR LIVE event happening later this year. It’s one you won’t want to miss!

Five Films that Inspired Star Wars Storytellers

Here’s the latest from: StarWars.Com

StarWars.com recommends the Akira Kurosawa films to watch before Star Wars Celebration Japan.

By Amy Richau

No filmmakers’ work has had more of an impact on Star Wars creators than Akira Kurosawa. Whether you’re heading to Tokyo or following Star Wars Celebration Japan news from home, watching some of Kurosawa’s filmography that inspired George Lucas and countless other creators will give you a better appreciation for the galaxy far, far away.

Lucas first became aware of Kurosawa’s work while he was in film school at USC. In an interview with the Criterion Collection, he talked about the filmmaker’s impact. “It’s hard to really appreciate the true genius of Kurosawa until you’ve seen a few of the films and then you’ve been able to see other films at the same time and be able to realize his visual style,” said Lucas. “I think he comes from a generation of filmmakers that were still influenced by silent films. The visual graphics and the framing, just the quality of the images, go a long way to telling the story and setting the mood. You’re not going to find a lot of filmmakers that have the facile quality with the medium that Kurosawa had.”

Here are five Kurosawa films that inspired Lucas and the modern generation of Star Wars creators….

About that Circus Hologram

Here’s the latest from: StarWars.Com

Co-creators Jon Watts and Chris Ford talk about paying homage to The Star Wars Holiday Special-inspired sequence in their new live-action series.

By Pete Vilmur

Amid the thrills and adventure of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’s exciting first episode, one scene summoned a deep-seated memory among some Star Wars fans, a memory that beckons from a very long time ago and far, far away.

When Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers) finds Neel’s (Robert Timothy Smith) siblings sitting around their home’s holo-table, viewers might recognize the flamboyantly-dressed performers in the holographic circus troupe, and perhaps the music that accompanies their dancing, juggling, and tumbling act. Yes, this is the same holographic circus performance seen in 1978’s The Star Wars Holiday Special….
