Move over, King Kong. Last night, it was Star Wars’ turn to take over the world-famous skyscraper
By Dan Brooks
With all that happens in New York City, it can be hard to impress residents of the Big Apple. (I should know — I’m a native.) But last night, passersby in Midtown might’ve been surprised by what they saw if they looked up: X-wings, TIE fighters, and more from the Star Wars galaxy, all traveling across the Empire State Building.
As part of Lucasfilm’s month-long “Imperial March” consumer products campaign, and starting the “March to May the 4th,” the iconic New York skyscraper hosted a dynamic light show, which saw classic Star Wars moments and new visual effects featured on the 1930 building’s beautiful Art Deco facade. The 5-minute sequence was created by Industrial Light & Magic, Lucasfilm’s visual effects house; for all of ILM’s legendary work, this was a project like no other…

Sink your teeth into the latest episode, as Hunter and Wrecker join Fennec Shand on a special mission.
By Kristin Baver
Hunter and Wrecker will do anything to help Omega. This week, that means tracking down Fennec Shand and trusting the mercenary to help them get vital intel on why the Empire is hunting Omega down. Between the space gators, a chittering bounty, and Fennec’s no-nonsense demeanor, this deal is getting worse all the time. But there’s hope that Fennec is good on her word. And while Hunter and Wrecker are dealing with a literal minefield, Omega helps Crosshair calm his mind with a few tricks she learned from the Wookiee Jedi Gungi. Here are five highlights from “Bad Territory.”…
The Force is strong with the trailer for the upcoming Disney+ series.
By StarWars.com Team
Thanks to Star Wars fans, the trailer launch for The Acolyte has been one to remember.
Released yesterday, the trailer for The Acolyte garnered 51.3 million views in its first 24 hours. This is a new digital-only record for any Lucasfilm Disney+ series, surpassing every trailer for The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Ahsoka. We’re grateful for your support, and can’t wait for you to experience the series…
The showrunner behind the Star Wars Original series, debuting June 4 on Disney+, talks about her film influences and love of Legends lore.
By Kristin Baver
Like a red lightsaber zinging through a serene forest, the first teaser for The Acolyte has arrived.
“Vernestra Rwoh opening a door might be my favorite part of the trailer,” showrunner Leslye Headland tells StarWars.com. “It’s like ‘What’s up? Listen, I haven’t opened a door in 100 years,’” Headland says with a laugh.
The mystery-thriller, which debuts June 4 on Disney+, upends the typical Jedi hero tale for a story focused on the dark side disrupting a Jedi Order in its prime. And Headland can’t wait to show us more.
The creator of the newest Star Wars live-action series first discovered the galaxy far, far away as a teenager watching the Special Editions on the big screen and immersing herself in the expanded universe of books, like Timothy Zahn’s Heir to the Empire. “I think it just meant so much to me because it was a place to live, a place to escape to,” Headland says. “Not just the media, but…George [Lucas] had given you enough signposts that it’s almost like Narnia. You could just go [into the Star Wars galaxy] and live there. And then you just have to come out of the wardrobe at some point and go to class.”…

The Acolyte is set during the High Republic era and the prime of the Jedi Order. But based on today’s new teaser image, trouble is brewing for the guardians of peace and justice in the galaxy.
In a surprise release, Lucasfilm dropped a haunting poster for the upcoming Disney+ series; it features a lightsaber on the ground — blood spilled just above — and reveals the June 4 premiere date. Check it out below!…
All flight troops, man your stations. The battle is just beginning in the new trading card game out now.
By Kristin Baver
Going up against a Sith Lord and his Imperial army is scary enough as it is. But once he Force-chokes R2-D2 and tosses him off the table? Then you know you’re in trouble.
This is the world of Star Wars: Unlimited, a new battle pack building and trading card game that allows players to go toe-to-toe in their own tabletop good versus evil battle. Or, for those with friends of similar persuasions, pit Darth Vader against Darth Vader for an epic duel of the dark side fates. (Sound effects not included. You’ll have to make them yourself.)…
Family reunions can be weird. Especially in the galaxy far, far away.
In “The Return,” the Bad Batch are finally back together. But there’s a lot of baggage, particularly between Crosshair and Hunter, and it weighs on them heavily. They need to learn to trust each other again, both as soldiers and brothers, and it takes some work; in classic Bad Batch fashion, that comes to involve a mission — which sees the team head to Barton IV, where Crosshair previously killed an Imperial officer — and facing a giant creature. We wouldn’t have it any other way. Here are five highlights from “The Return.”…

The Star Wars: The High Republic co-authors of Defy the Storm talk about writing as a team and choosing when to save or sacrifice a character. Plus, we reveal some new character art!
By StarWars.com Team
The release of Defy the Storm marks the fourth book that authors Tessa Gratton and Justina Ireland have written together. But long before they were co-authors, they were friends swapping manuscripts and giving each other advice on their drafts.
In the latest installment in the StarWars.com series celebrating Phase III in Star Wars: The High Republic, which continues this week with the new young adult novel Defy the Storm arriving March 5, and continues this summer with Gratton’s Temptation of the Force adult novel in June, pull up a chair and laugh along as the two writers finish each other’s sentences and chat about emotional snacking at 2 a.m., killing their darlings, and saving one particular Jedi….
Omega’s optimistic attitude can’t quite crack Crosshair’s hardened nature as the two try to find a way off the planet Lau.
By Kristin Baver
Hope. In countless Star Wars stories, it keeps our heroes on course for victory, and makes the impossible a reality when facing down an enemy like the Empire. And for young Omega, it pushes her forward as she flees from Dr. Royce Hemlock, believing, without a doubt, that she and her brothers will be reunited.
Not everyone shares her view. Omega and Crosshair have been at odds all season. She wanted to escape; he wanted to be left behind. She believed they could get to freedom; he was convinced they would never make it. Now, having crashed on Lau, Omega is unwavering in her belief that her brothers are out there, looking for her, and they will meet again. But first, she and Crosshair have to survive a high-stakes card game and Hemlock’s tenacity. Here are five highlights from the latest episode, “A Different Approach.”…
Kyle Katarn is on a new mission to make the acquaintance of modern gamers.
By Kelly Knox
Decades before Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, a very different kind of hero stole the Death Star plans for the Rebel Alliance. His name was Kyle Katarn. In the Legends story of Star Wars: Dark Forces, the mercenary for hire fearlessly took on the entire Galactic Empire himself with just a blaster in his pixelated hands.
“Kyle Katarn really can do just about everything,” Nightdive Studios’ Max Waine tells StarWars.com, “and while he’s doing everything, he manages to generally stay very cool and calm. Stealing the plans for the Death Star? Yep. Defeating Boba Fett? Yep. Punching out kell dragons? Yep. He can do that. And that’s just in Dark Forces.”
Thanks to Lucasfilm Games and Nightdive Studios, a new generation of Star Wars gamers can experience Katarn’s first adventure on consoles and PC with updated high-resolution graphics, realistic lighting and atmospheric effects, a new playable level, and more in Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster…

With art by Mizuki Sakakibara, the illustrated story is part of Phase III of Star Wars: The High Republic, reuniting fans with Jedi Knight Lily Tora-Asi who remains in defiance on Banchii, one year after the fall of Starlight Beacon.
Today, StarWars.com is pleased to reveal the cover art, featuring Jedi Master Arkoff the Wookiee proudly standing guard with green lightsaber ignited. “I envisioned the covers of Edge of Balance to represent the four seasons,” Sakakibara tells StarWars.com. “Volume 1 (Lily) was autumn, Volume 2 (Keerin) was summer, so this time it will be Arkoff in the winter. The Jedi are facing a tough time, but after winter comes spring.”…

Unlimited power! Sheev Palpatine sure was excited about it, but the concept would prove fleeting in the face of a strong-willed galaxy. And we’ll soon take a deep dive into how the Chancellor-turned-Emperor tightened his grip…and then lost everything.
StarWars.com is excited to reveal Star Wars: The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire, a new book from DK Publishing that promises to examine the intricacies of Imperial rule. The Rise and Fall of the Galactic Empire arrives July 9, and you can get a first look at the cover below….
It’s been a long road for the Bad Batch. Misfit heroes of the Republic turned outlaw renegades in the age of the Empire, their lives have come to center around survival and finding purpose. They’ve seen amazing victories. Narrow escapes. Tragic losses. All of it hard, all of it incredible to watch.
The long-awaited final season of Star Wars: The Bad Batch is finally here, kicking off with “Confined,” which picks up with Omega and Crosshair adjusting to their new lives as prisoners in Dr. Hemlock’s Imperial research facility. Omega longs for her brothers and escape, but remains unsinkable; Crosshair is a shell of himself, seemingly resigned to his fate. Meanwhile, the sinister Hemlock looms over the episode, his mysterious research always in the viewer’s mind. Though “Confined” is aptly named, sparks of kindness and spirit show that hope is never lost — and the story of the Bad Batch is not over. Here are five highlights…

The voice of Omega talks about her journey so far and hints at the story to come this year.
Kristin Baver
The Omega we meet at the start of Season 3 of Star Wars: The Bad Batch is far different from the character’s debut three years ago. The bright-eyed young clone who excitedly discovered the galaxy beyond rainy Kamino has matured over the years, and now finds herself trapped in a secret Imperial medical base being forced to serve the Empire’s excruciating medical testing on other clones.
“Season 3 opens with Omega being separated from the Batch willingly because she recognizes not doing that endangers all the people that she loves,” says Michelle Ang, who voices the character. “That’s a pretty big call for a young character.” For Ang, the decision to give herself up at the end of Season 2 showcases how much the character has grown. “It shows that Omega’s starting to understand the complexities of the world and is willing to stand in the face of danger for what she knows is the right thing to do.”…
Brad Rau and Jennifer Corbett on the death of Tech and the end of their award-winning series.
Dan Brooks
It’s not easy being the Bad Batch, but lately it’s been especially rough. Last year on Star Wars: The Bad Batch, our favorite clone squad lost its brother and science whiz Tech, was betrayed by a supposed ally, and saw young Omega snatched by Imperial mad scientist Dr. Royce Hemlock. To borrow a phrase from Obi-Wan Kenobi, they were dark times.
“When we first started this show, we had hoped that we could get three seasons to tell this story,” executive producer and head writer Jennifer Corbett tells StarWars.com. “We kicked Season 1 off with Order 66 and the team trying to figure out where they fit in the galaxy. We knew Season 2 was going to be a little bit darker, because we knew that the team was going to lose in some way. As the season progressed, it became clear that the way for them to lose is to essentially have the team be fractured. That’s what happens when we lose Tech, and then also with Omega being taken by the Empire.”…
It’s hard to imagine the last decade-plus of Star Wars animation without Dee Bradley Baker. Starting with 2008’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars, he’s played several characters across many of Lucasfilm’s animated series, but as the voice of the Republic’s clones — all of them! — he’s been a constant presence. What’s proved most impressive is Baker’s ability to differentiate those clones through subtleties in his performance, from imbuing Rex with a sense of confidence to conveying Gregor’s quirks through a higher pitch.
But Baker has truly shined in Star Wars: The Bad Batch, playing five leading roles in the titular team of genetically-mutated clones: Hunter, the steady leader; Crosshair, the angsty loner; Wrecker, the hulking giant with a heart; Tech, the science whiz; and Echo, the cyborg soldier. These characters often have scenes where they’re talking to each other and, as a testament to Baker’s talent, you’d never know it was one actor performing all the parts in real-time. It’s astonishing…
The vice president of Animation Production reflects on her affinity for the more Tech-nical aspects of creating a series.
Kristin Baver
It’s official: Athena Portillo loves Tech just as much as the rest of us.
The vice president of Animation Production for Lucasfilm and executive producer on Star Wars: The Bad Batch has a special affinity for the elite clone we first met in the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. It’s no surprise given the more than a decade she’s spent overseeing the more technical aspects of animation production. “Tech will always be my favorite character,” Portillo tells StarWars.com. “I love everything about him. His wit, his directness, his intelligence, his honesty, and his logic in making the ultimate sacrifice for his brothers and Omega.”…

Ships of the Galaxy: The Marauder
Dan Zehr
The Marauder is a modified Omicron-class attack shuttle that serves as the home base and gunship of Clone Force 99, also known as the Bad Batch. The elite clones used this vessel for several covert missions during the Clone Wars, relying on it for stealth, speed, and maneuverability. Following the war, the Marauder continues to propel them throughout the galaxy as they evade the Empire. (It also looks pretty cool!)
Behind the Scenes
The Marauder first appeared in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars episode “The Bad Batch,” which debuted February 21, 2020, on Disney+. But the ship actually made its debut years earlier in an unfinished version of that episode shown at Star Wars Celebration….

The acclaimed artist discusses his history with Episode I and being called on to commemorate its latest milestone.
Dan Brooks
Every saga has a beginning, including that of poster artist Matt Ferguson and his relationship with Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. It started with the original theatrical release in 1999, which followed a huge buildup — it was the first Star Wars film since 1983’s Return of the Jedi — and level of anticipation seen by few movies. For 15-year-old Ferguson, living in Sheffield in the UK, the hype was real.
“I was actually doing work experience at the time in an office through school, and I remember just being so excited about the new Star Wars movie,” he tells StarWars.com. “I went out and bought this Darth Maul action figure on a lunch break and everybody else was just so excited for it. And then we got to go see it. And I can remember I just loved it.”…
