Sav Malagán has been on an adventure to remember. The restless Padawan star of Dark Horse’s all-ages comic, Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures, did what almost any teenager would, given the chance: join a motley crew of pirates (including Maz Kanata) for some planet-hopping action. As a result, she’s tussled with pirate gangs, traveled the stars, and had to explain it all to her master. The delightful series wraps up this week with issues 6, 7, and 8 all arriving on Wednesday, June 28; to mark the occasion, StarWars.com caught up with writer Daniel José Older to talk about crafting The High Republic Adventures, and is excited to offer a first look at its final installments…
I got the chance to sit down with the incredible Charles Soule to discuss his new book, The Endless Vessel, as well as teases for what’s to come in The High Republic and the upcoming Star Wars comic crossover event, Dark Droids!
Enter the world of the High Republic era, where the heroes return to face shattered peace and a fearsome enemy after the dramatic events of Light of the Jedi. The Republic is thriving after the Great Hyperspace Disaster and the heroism of the Jedi, uniting more worlds under a single banner. Chancellor Lina Soh leads the charge, spreading the spirit of unity across the galaxy with the Jedi and the newly established Starlight Beacon station at the forefront. In honor of this unity, the chancellor plans The Republic Fair, a grand showcase of the Republic’s possibilities and the peace they strive to foster.
Stellan Gios, Bell Zettifar, Elzar Mann, and other ambassadors of harmony come together to celebrate this momentous occasion. But, as the galaxy turns its attention to the Fair, the Nihil’s fury descends upon the festivities. Marchion Ro, their leader, is determined to destroy the unity the Republic has worked so hard to achieve. Chaos and revenge follow in his wake, leaving the Jedi struggling to contain the rampaging Nihil.
The Jedi realize that the true fear their enemy plans to unleash across the galaxy is far worse than they initially thought. Even the Force cannot shield them from the terror that looms ahead. Will they be able to stop the Nihil’s plan and restore peace to the galaxy? Join the heroes of the High Republic era as they fight to protect all they hold dear.
In “Star Wars – The High Republic: Cataclysm,” the excitement continues after the events of “Convergence.” The Jedi are racing to put an end to the Forever War by confronting the Path of the Open Hand. The planets Eiram and E’ronoh are on the brink of peace, but when disaster strikes at a treaty signing on Jedha, violence erupts once again. The Jedi, alongside royal heirs Phan-tu Zenn and Xiri A’lbaran, suspect that outside forces are behind the conflict, and the Path of the Open Hand seems to be the main culprit.
Time is running out, and the Jedi must divide their attention between stopping the violence and investigating the Path. Gella Nattai turns to Axel Greylark, the Chancellor’s son, for help, even though she doesn’t fully trust him. Will he aid the Jedi in their mission, or will he be tempted by the Path’s promise of freedom?
As they prepare to face their formidable foe on Dalna, the Jedi and their allies must rely on their trust in the Force and each other to survive.
It’s an exciting time for exploration in the galaxy as Jedi are traveling far and wide to discover more about the Force and the countless worlds and creatures connected by it. At the same time, the Republic is working hard to unite planets near and far to build a stronger and more connected community among the stars.
Unfortunately, the planets Eiram and E’ronoh are feeling the growing pains of a galaxy with limited resources and unlimited ambition. The animosity between the two planets has led to escalating conflict for the past five years, putting surrounding systems in danger. But there’s hope for peace when the royal heirs from both planets plan to marry.
However, things take a turn for the worse when an assassination attempt on the couple plunges Eiram and E’ronoh back into war. To prevent further bloodshed, Jedi Knight Gella Nattai volunteers to find the culprit, while Chancellor Kyong appoints her son, Axel Greylark, to represent the Republic’s interests in the investigation.
Axel doesn’t trust the Jedi, and Gella is a bit too serious for his taste. But if they want to get to the bottom of the conspiracy and save both worlds, they’ll have to work together. The investigation is complicated, with accusations flying and potential enemies lurking in the shadows. But with their unique skills and perspectives, Axel and Gella just might be able to bring peace back to the galaxy.
