I remember the first time I heard Ahsoka, in 2008, my thought was, oh, Disney has come to Star Wars and lo and behold, 4 years later, Star Wars was sold TO Disney.
I wasn’t one of the ones who made embarrassing scenes on the forums of the time but I think that how Ashley Eckstein held herself throughout those first few years HAS to be applauded. Yes, the character of Ahsoka DID change over time but I think how the fans eventually embraced the character is due, in no small way, to Ashley.
She was and still is a great ambassador for fans AND for Star Wars.
When Rosario Dawson was cast as Ahsoka in live-action, many fans thought that it might mean the end of the much beloved animated version of the character, who was voiced by Ashley Eckstein.
Thankfully, that wasn’t the case, as she returned to voice the character in three installments of the recently released Tales of the Jedi on Disney+. But where will she pop up next?
Chronologically, the next time Ahsoka is seen after her final episode of Tales is in Star Wars: Rebels, where she’s revealed to be the mysterious Rebel Fulcrum. However, after her final appearance there, the Star Wars timeline catches up to where the live-action content is now.
On the animated side, she could still end up in Star Wars: The Bad Batch at some point, which takes place shortly after Revenge of the Sith—a lot of that time remains unaccounted for. Or could it be an unannounced project? According to the actress, not even she knows…
Ashley Eckstein, the original voice actress for Ahsoka Tano, has revealed that she got an opportunity to visit the set of the live-action Disney Plus Ahsoka series starring Rosario Dawson.
Talking to Looper (hat tip r/StarWarsLeaks), Ashley Eckstein managed to reveal that she got to visit the set of the live-action Disney Plus series. While there’s little that she could talk about without breaking the standard non-disclosure agreements that come with a set visit on a major franchise, she did note that she got to meet Rosario Dawson on the set of the series for the first time….
When Ahsoka Tano first debuted in The Mandalorian‘s second season, most fans were not only excited but also relieved—it was about time one of Star Wars’ best characters finally got her due in live-action. Lucasfilm seemed to agree, as it didn’t take long for Rosario Dawson’s former Jedi to get her own streaming series.
It’s not clear what Ahsoka will be about specifically, but it does look to be following the plot threads left hanging by the animated fan-favorite series Star Wars: Rebels. This means that fans can expect to see familiar faces, including Ezra Bridger, who was missing the last fans heard of him.
But how might Ahsoka feel compared to all of the other Star Wars projects out there? Will it be the galaxy-spanning adventure of The Mandalorian? Or maybe something closer to The Book of Boba Fett?
Well, now, thanks to the franchise’s key creatives, fans might have a better idea of what to expect from Ahsoka Tano’s solo project….
The upcoming Star Wars series Ahsoka will carry forth the story of the Togruta ex-Jedi, presumably as she continues her search for Ezra Bridger.
Along for the ride is none other than Sabine Wren, seemingly making Ahsoka as much of a Star Wars Rebels sequel as it is a standalone project. Actress Natasha Liu Bordizzo will bring the colorful Mandalorian warrior to life alongside Rosario Dawson’s take on the title character.
The show began production earlier this year with a targeted release date set for sometime in 2023, and it seems Bordizzo has very recently fulfilled her commitments to the Disney+ series….

Fans of Star Wars animation have long been acquainted with Ahsoka Tano, the former Padawan of Anakin Skywalker who walked away from the Jedi Order and joined the rebellion. In the second season of The Mandalorian, the character made the leap to live-action storytelling, a hint at things to come in the forthcoming series, Ahsoka.
In an exclusive excerpt from the deluxe collector’s edition Star Wars: The Mandalorian: Guide to Season Two, learn more about the character and how creators continued her evolution as she stepped out of the mist on Corvus in the first Star Wars live-action series….
She’s no Jedi. But she’s also not the only star of her 2023 Disney+ series, Ahsoka.
When Rosario Dawson brought Ahsoka Tano into live-action in The Mandalorian, her mission was made clear: she’s on the hunt for Grand Admiral Thrawn and likely Ezra Bridger as well.
Since it’s confirmed that Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren would be joining the Disney+ cast, it appears that Dave Filoni’s Ahsoka is shaping up to be a Star Wars: Rebels live-action reunion. But ever since Dawson’s Ahsoka namedropped Thrawn, the question has been who Lucasfilm will cast to play the iconic antagonist.
Despite the fact Ahsoka is currently filming, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni kept Thrawn’s casting under wraps throughout Star Wars Celebration and the D23 Expo.
Why is Huyang going to be in the Ahsoka series? Was Ahsoka too young to be a Padawan? Is Jacen Syndulla going to be in Skeleton Crew? These questions and more answered in this week’s Q&A!
According to The Hollywood Reporter, actor Eman Esfandi has been cast as Ezra Bridger in the upcoming Ahsoka series on Disney+. Esfandi is known for his role in King Richard and he stars in an upcoming film titled The Inspection.
The actor will join Rosario Dawson and Natasha Liu Bordizzo, who will be playing Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren, respectively….
A new report by Cinelinx is saying Eman Esfandi, from King Richard and an upcoming film TheInspection, will be playing Ezra Bridger in live-action, in the upcoming Ahsoka series. Filming has been going on since May 9 and will continue for a couple more months in the Volume at Manhattan Beach Studios as well as the trainyard at El Segundo, in Los Angeles.
The search for Ezra has been one of the most discussed Star Wars-related topics of the past couple of years, both on- and off-screen. After Chapter 13 of TheMandalorian set up the Ahsoka spin-off show, when Rosario Dawson’s version of the character name-dropped Grand Admiral Thrawn, it became clear the storyline would follow up on the events of the Star Wars: Rebels finale. During Star Wars Celebration this year, Dave Filoni strongly hinted that the Ghost crew would be reuniting in the series, but there hasn’t been a lot of news regarding Ezra and Thrawn….
When asked about the directors and crew she gets to work with, Dawson admitted that she couldn’t say much, but confirmed that everybody is “really excited” about everything happening. She noted how everything’s running like “a well-oiled machine” thanks to everything set up by The Mandalorian, praising the team for the “dedication and heart” that’s going into the story:
“Again like, I don’t know if I’m allowed to say any of that stuff. But I do have to say, it feels really really special. Like everyone is really excited about it. Dave [Filoni] has been wanting to tell the story for a while. And everyone’s just really showing up and out. Like a lot of blood, sweat, and tears going into this and it feels like… You know what’s interesting is that, because of Mando, everyone’s really great at making Star Wars, you know? Like… it’s a well-oiled machine in a different kind of way, you know? And there’s a familiarity between all the different departments, which is super interesting, because I’ve only experienced that again on like a Spike Lee joint, or you know a View Askewniverse project, because there’s just such a family kind of element to it. And that’s what it feels like on set, so that’s special. Because, you know, it’s hard what we’re doing and… it’s really coming together really beautifully. There’s a lot of dedication and heart going into it and we know the expectations, so we’re loving it so far. So I can just say we’re enjoying ourselves.”…
While promoting Kevin Smith’s Clerks III, Rosario Dawson revealed the upcoming Disney Plus series Ahsoka will complete filming in the next couple of months, and it sounds like we can expect a lot more fight out of the Togruta Jedi in the upcoming series.
In an exclusive with Screen Rant, Dawson was asked for an update on Ahsoka:
“Yes, we’re still filming it right now. We just have a couple months left. It’s going great. It’s really amazing learning martial arts in my 40s. [Laughs] It’s super amazing, and I don’t use that word very lightly. My grandmother used to say, ‘Amazing is two blue horses,’ if you ever said something was amazing. Because it’d be like, ‘No, amazing is two blue horses. That pizza slice probably isn’t amazing.’”…
Under the leadership of Star Wars guru Dave Filoni, Lucasfilm is in preparations for the latest addition to the Disney+ universe with Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka.
With this new series following up on the former Jedi’s journey from both The Clone Wars and Rebels, Lucasfilm will give fans their first live-action variations of a couple of widely popular heroes on Disney+. One of those comes with a fan-favorite Mandalorian, Sabine Wren, played by Natasha Liu Bordizzo as she and Ahsoka reunite for the first time away from the animated sphere.
Although she initially had no idea that she was auditioning for such an important role, Bordizzo prepared heavily for her introduction to the Mandoverse, with Filoni praising her work ethic and her fit in the role.
Now, Filoni has doubled down on that praise, sharing exactly why the young woman playing Sabine Wren is the right pick for the job….
We’re a little over a month out before Andor drops on Disney Plus! We have a great trailer breakdown for the show from our friends The Resistance Broadcast this week.
We also explore the discussion around an Obi-Wan Kenobi season 2 (with Ewan McGregor offering his two cents), hype for The Mandalorian season 3, news surrounding The Acolyte casting, and more.
With many shows on the horizon, it’s tough to keep up-to-date on all of the news and info hitting us at lightspeed. That’s why we create this weekly guide to help you stay connected.
Next year, Lucasfilm and Disney+ will bring Rosario Dawson into her own solo series as Ahsoka Tano, aptly going under the title of Ahsoka for the streaming series. This will serve as a spin-off from both the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Dawson’s debut as Ahsoka in The Mandalorian as fans hope to see a number of key plot threads revisited next year.
One of the biggest threads that remains unanswered is the mystery behind Grand Admiral Thrawn, who was last seen fighting Ahsoka and her cohorts in Star Wars: Rebels. Rumors have even teased that Thrawn was set for his live-action debut in Ahsoka, although no specific casting announcement has been made ahead of the series’ release.
With no plot details confirmed for Ahsoka as filming continues to move forward, Thrawn remains one of the fans’ biggest questions, especially with his absence in the story since his last appearance in Rebels. Thankfully, in her latest public appearance, starring actress Rosario Dawson seemed to answer some of those questions when asked about the villain’s place in the story….
2023 will bring a couple of exciting new adventures to the Star Wars universe with Season 3 of The Mandalorian and the first season of Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka. Mando’s third season is confirmed to bring back Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan Kyrze, who has played a limited but important role in the Mandoverse over the past three years.
The last time fans saw Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan, she had joined the battle with Din Djarin and Luke Skywalker before Luke took Grogu to begin his Jedi training, while Mando took control of the Darksaber. Due to Mandalorian customs, Bo-Katan couldn’t accept the blade when Din offered it to her, along with the title of ruler, without winning it in battle. Although, that sets up plenty of intriguing action for Season 3.
Bo-Katan also had a budding relationship with Ahsoka Tano thanks to their time together in Season 7 of The Clone Wars, leading fans to wonder if and when they’ll interact in a live-action format. And recently, the star behind Bo addressed the chances of that meeting happening in Rosario Dawson’s own solo series….

Taika Waititi has been popular this week. Between the release of his new Marvel film Thor: Love and Thunder and his tongue-in-cheek quotes, like joking about not knowing Natalie Portman was in Star Wars (which many took seriously) or not knowing whether his Star Wars film will be made (likely also a joke), the director has found himself front and center in headlines and across social media. Well now The Hollywood Reporter is saying plans for Waititi’s mystery Star Wars movie is on firmer footing than the filmmaker would have you believe. Check out the story!
