Rumor | Mando Season 4 Could Become a Film.

Here’s the latest from Making Star Wars :

Hollywood is broken. The strikes have made every project a tentative hope. People are playing dirty. The emotions of the labor force is likely going to get angrier. Once writers begin to lose their homes, they will have nothing left to lose but to see the strike through or it was all for nothing.

In the last week, I have had meetings with sources about the state of Lucasfilm, Star Wars, and Disney. As you would expect, everything is in a liminal space at the moment. Anyone, even on the inside, who pretends they know what is going to happen is probably too confident in their analysis. I like to report facts as much as I can. The only fact I know in this article, is there is a plan or a concept Lucasfilm may or may not use. Even though they’re often wrong, Disney likes to look at possible outcomes and take the smartest path…

James Mangold on Developing a ‘Star Wars’ Film…

…Without the Constraints of Existing Lore

By Miguel Fernandez

Of the three recently-announced Star Wars films, perhaps the one that looks to be the most distinct is the new project by Logan director James Mangold, set 25,000 years before The Phantom Menace during an era dubbed as Dawn of the Jedi. (Whether this will also be the title of the film, remains to be seen.) As he is promoting Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, io9 asked him about his next collaboration with Lucasfilm, and the writer-director shared a few interesting insights.

First and perhaps most interestingly to those keeping a record of the various projects Lucasfilm has been developing over the years, Mangold confirmed he’s previously worked on Star Wars for a short period of time, possibly alluding to the Boba Fett film that was once reported and quickly shot down by Mangold himself and people at Lucasfilm. He then said that he was surprised that Lucasfilm were as excited to go back in the Star Wars timeline and tell stories unconstrained by lore as he was when he pitched the idea…

Star Wars Explained

T. M. Christopher – Film Editor

T. M. Christopher
Film Editor

Tom has been with Lucas since 1982, when he came to work on Return of the Jedi as the mixing stage recordist.

Married with two children, Tom was born in Wilmington, Delaware and graduated from San Francisco State University with a B.A. in film. He has also worked at Zoetrope Studios, The Saul Zaentz Film Center and Pixar.

For the Star Wars Trilogy Special Edition he was responsible for editing new scenes into the films and coordinating the overall restoration of the films and soundtracks, not an easy task!

The job as film editor had Tom meeting with George Lucas weekly, usually in a screening room or working on a AVID digital editing workstation. When George comes to a cutting room, he is prepared to work, and this caused Tom’s job to take many interesting turns. Tom remembers one example, in which George was at hand to listen to the final mix tracks of the last reel of Star Wars. Also in attendance were Rick McCallum, Ben Burtt, Gary Summers, and Ted Gagliano (of Fox). After reviewing the reel (which included the climatic space battle and the explosion of the Death Star) George turned to Tom and asked “Tom, wasn’t there a scene here in the script? Did we ever look into adding it back?” The simple question created a flurry of activity. Tom had to pull the dailies (film footage) of a scene that was scripted and shot, but deleted from the movie 20 years ago. Amazingly, two hours later, a scene in which Luke Skywalker meets his boyhood friend Biggs in the Rebel Base hangar was added to the Star Wars Trilogy Special Edition, complete with Foley and sound effects. Tom is most proud of the look, color balance and sound clarity of the Star Wars Trilogy Special Edition.

Tom’s favorite Star Wars moment, the scene in which R2-D2 is captured by Jawas, has also been improved in the Special Edition. Tom loves the whimpering sound of R2-D2’s cries as he proceeds into the Jawas’ trap.

Tom was amazed by the number of people that it took to make Star Wars! Even though he first saw it in a small theater in New Hampshire, with a very noisy air conditioner, he was hooked, and still is.

The Next STAR WARS Film

AUDIO PODCAST – “Here we go again”, as Threepio once famously said. Another rumored STAR WARS film is in the works, this one coming from Damon Lindelof and targeting a December 2025 release. So naturally, we are skeptical. ANDOR is bringing us STAR WARS stories told without all the typical bells and whistles we expect. We discuss the pros and cons. Faverau and Filoni revealed some MANDALORIAN, AHSOKA, and SKELETON CREW production updates to ET and we review the highlights, along with Hayden Christensen’s acceptance speech at the 2022 Saturn Awards. Plus, a new version of the NARKINA PRISON BLUES and more!
