Inside Maul’s Mind

Here’s the latest from: StarWars.Com

“This version of Maul is the most psychologically satisfying version of the character that we’ve ever done,” the actor says of the new animated series.

By Kelly Knox

Few people have spent as many years obsessing over Maul’s interior life as Sam Witwer has.

“I feel like I know this guy pretty well at this point,” Witwer says.

The voice actor has portrayed Maul for over a decade, beginning with his astonishing return in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and followed by stories across animation, film, and video games. Now, Maul commands the spotlight as the lead in his own series, Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord.

With the first two episodes available now on Disney+, the animated series gives fans unprecedented access to the former Sith as he struggles to find his place in the nascent Empire. To celebrate the series premiere, Witwer chats with StarWars.com about what’s in store, his journey as a voice actor, and how Maul was a part of it even before his surprising return…

Inside the Making of Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord

Learn behind-the-scenes stories, trivia, and fascinating facts from the team behind the new animated series

By Kristin Baver

You don’t have to know anything about Star Wars or even Maul to get into Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, the new animated series on Disney+. “All you really need to understand is that this is a story about a guy who has been wronged by a bunch of people and he wants payback,” says Head Writer Matthew Michnovetz.

But inside the writers room, the team crafting this pulpy noir wanted to know literally everything they could about Maul, down to every person who’s crossed him. That meant working out his kill list to include in the show bible.

Beyond Obi-Wan Kenobi, they’re mum on the details. However, Supervising Director Brad Rau, Michnovetz, and Lore Executive Matt Martin have shared interesting stories and other bits of trivia from the creation of the series.

Read on to learn about this week’s installment, and come back next Monday for even more fun facts…

Forged in an era of chaos and conflict, the former Darth (now just) Maul persists as a figure who thrives in disruption. Fueled by sheer rage and willpower, Maul is always plotting with a greater purpose in mind.

Meet the Cast of Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord

Here’s the latest from: StarWars.Com

The creators and talent behind the latest Star Wars animated series invite you to join the former Sith Lord on Janix with the two-episode series premiere April 6, 2026, on Disney+

By Kristin Baver

Maul could be described in many ways. A terrifying and agile lightsaber duelist. A menacing creature of the dark side. Add to that relatable and worthy of our sympathy.

With his first starring role in Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord, the animated series introduces a new chapter in the former Sith Lord’s story, a few years after his old Master Darth Sidious succeeded in launching the Imperial era. Created by Lucasfilm President and Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni and starring Sam Witwer with snarling precision, Maul – Shadow Lord introduces a new cast of characters struggling to survive in the early days of the Empire.

“I think people feel bad for Maul because he’s so relatable,” Filoni tells StarWars.com. “He makes mistakes. He’s not perfect. He desires power, and then he gets toppled. That’s relatable. You know, we all probably feel like that when we have a low moment. He just doesn’t deal with it well. He keeps trying to attack his problems the same way. He can’t ever really let go of his hatred and his anger.”

To bring this new era of Maul’s quest for power and revenge into focus, Head Writer Matthew Michnovetz and Supervising Director Brad Rau have assembled a crew of phenomenal newcomers and recognizable Star Wars animation stalwarts to round out the cast…

Behind the Scenes at Star Wars Night

Major League Baseball players and staff talk about this popular annual tradition to celebrate Opening Day March 25, 2026 and this year’s Star Wars Night games

By Lucas Seastrom

A drizzly Saturday afternoon on a recent May the 4th didn’t stop the Pittsburgh Pirates and their fans from celebrating Star Wars Night at PNC Park. The game itself pitted the home baseball club and visiting Colorado Rockies in a story that felt right out of the galaxy far, far away.

Eight-and-a-half scoreless innings came down to the last out in the bottom of the ninth when the Pirates loaded the bases. Not unlike Luke Skywalker joining the Rebel Alliance to make the trench run in Star Wars: A New Hope (1977), pinch hitter Jack Suwinksi made a late entrance for the fateful moment, sneaking a base hit over the infield for the walk-off win. There wasn’t a medal ceremony like the rebels enjoyed back on Yavin 4, but it proved a much-needed victory for the Pirates…

Star Wars Began Filming 50 Years Ago Today

Here’s the latest from: StarWars.Com

On March 22, 1976, one of the most iconic films in history commenced principal photography in the deserts of Tunisia. It was a long road to reach that day, and there was an even longer one ahead

By Lucas Seastrom

On March 22, 1976, the world changed, only no one knew it yet. On that morning 50 years ago, in the middle of a salt flat on the edge of North Africa’s Sahara Desert, an independent movie produced by Lucasfilm and financed by 20th Century Fox began principal photography. Its working title was The Star Wars.

Writer and director George Lucas was 31 years old that Monday. Having grown up in the small California town of Modesto, he was already a rising star among an emerging generation of American filmmakers. His first feature film, 1971’s bold and philosophical THX 1138, showed visionary potential but was a commercial failure. His second feature, 1973’s soulful and hilarious American Graffiti, became one of the most successful films of its time. Many were following the young filmmaker’s career with great interest, however few could understand the vision behind his newest project.

In truth, The Star Wars wasn’t all that different in theme from THX or Graffiti. A young boy from a backwater town seeks to break out and pursue his dreams. It was the setting of this newest film that struck so many as odd: a space fantasy realm that seemed equally inspired by Sergio Leone’s Westerns, Walt Disney’s fairy tales, and Akira Kurosawa’s epics. Lucas wanted to bring mythic dimensions to the operatic stories made popular decades earlier by the likes of Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers…

Star Wars: Endgame

Here’s the latest from The Direct –   STaR wars

A recent report indicated that Star Wars’ version of Avengers: Endgame is still planned despite previous rumors that it had been shelved or may never happen. When Star Wars’ Disney+ run began in 2019 with The Mandalorian, fans had no idea that it would lead to a major network of interconnecting projects that would play off of each other. After The Mandalorian Season 1 finished, what is now called the MandoVerse was established. Then, it was announced that Dave Filoni would be directing a feature film that would be the culmination of all of the projects within, serving as Star Wars’ own Avengers: Endgame crossover event.

According to industry insider Daniel Richtman via Patreon, the upcoming MandoVerse crossover event depends entirely on how The Mandalorian & Grogu performs in theaters…

First Merchandise for The Mandalorian and Grogu

Here’s the latest from: StarWars.Com

Get the full rundown of the first batch of toys, merch, and collectibles from the upcoming The Mandalorian and Grogu film on display at New York Toy Fair 2026!

By Paige Lyman

The hunt for The Mandalorian and Grogu bounties begins! The brand-new Star Wars: “Most Wanted” global campaign was announced today by director Jon Favreau ahead of New York Toy Fair 2026. Inspired by stories old and new from across the galaxy, this year-long campaign features all-new merchandise inspired by The Mandalorian and Grogu, including toys, apparel, collectibles, accessories, and more! Favreau, director, writer, and producer of The Mandalorian and Grogu, took to the stage in New York City to reveal the very first merchandise inspired by the forthcoming film.

During the event, Favreau spoke about Star Wars’ unique history with toys, recalling the anticipation around Kenner toy vouchers the Christmas after Star Wars: A New Hope sent pop culture into a frenzy in 1977. The director revealed that eagle-eyed fans may even notice a few nods to old toys in this summer’s The Mandalorian and Grogu.

“As a collector of Star Wars toys myself since early childhood, I understand what an important storytelling extension they can be,” says the filmmaker. “For many fans my age, the toys were how we lived in the Star Wars galaxy between film releases. It’s an honor to continue that tradition with The Mandalorian and Grogu.”

When asked what he could share about the upcoming film, Favreau delighted fans with an update about Mando’s little green companion. “Grogu has leveled up a bit,” he teases. “We saw that he trained with Luke, so he’s got a little Jedi influence. And he’s also an apprentice Mandalorian. So now it’s time for his dad/teacher to bring him on adventures with him.”

Here’s a complete look at the film-inspired toys and collectibles that were unveiled during the event!…

Star Wars Doesn’t Quite Redeem Jar Jar

When it comes to divisive characters in the Star Wars franchise, there are few more divisive than Jar Jar Binks. From his first appearance in Star Wars: Episode I — The Phantom Menace, the well-meaning Gungan was comic relief in the Star Wars universe but was also extremely polarizing for fans and the backlash was so extreme that it even negatively impacted Ahmed Best, who brought the character to life. And, of course, it didn’t help Jar Jar’s case when he ended up being instrumental in Chancellor Palpatine getting vast emergency powers in Star Wars: Episode II — Attack of the Clones because, well, we all knew where that was going.

But over the years the tide has been turning for Jar Jar Binks. People’s perspectives have shifted with time, especially as Star Wars fans who were kids when the prequel series debuted have grown up and now, Jar Jar is even being canonically redeemed thanks to the new Star Wars: Jar Jar #1 comic, revealing his key role in the origin of the Rebel Alliance…

Strongest Jedi Of All Time?

Here’s the latest from The Direct –   STaR wars

Star Wars fans have argued who the strongest Jedi of all time is for many years, but there is really no competition, as one stands high above everyone else. After Return of the Jedi was released in 1983, it was pretty clear to fans that Luke Skywalker was undoubtedly the strongest Jedi to have ever lived, as he defeated the Sith and did something no other Jedi had ever been able to do. However, the prequel trilogy then showed just how powerful Luke’s father, Anakin, was, so fans of that trilogy then began arguing that Anakin was much stronger than Luke.

While the debate has gone on for a long time, there is a clear winner, but it actually depends on whether fans are talking strictly about canon or if Star Wars Legends (which was formerly known as the Expanded Universe (EU)) is involved. If canon is the only timeline and reference being looked at, Anakin Skywalker is absolutely the most powerful Jedi of all time. However, if the EU is being taken into consideration, then it is undoubtedly Luke…
