Tales of the Jedi | Records An Increase in Viewer Demand

The release of the new season of The Bad Batch might have inspired people to revisit, or watch for the first time, last fall’s anthology series Tales of the Jedi.

This is according to data from Parrot Analytics published by The Wrap; the story says that in the week of Jan. 7-13 the company recorded an uptick of 5% in online demand for the series with respect to the previous week. This does not necessarily mean that the viewership numbers increased over this period of time, considering that Parrot Analytics gathers data from social media interactions about the series, articles published online about it, and even piracy. However, there is undoubtedly a correlation between online demand and viewership numbers…

Andor Soundtrack Volume 3 Now Available

The music for the final four episodes of Andor has finally come out. The 56-minute-long tracklist is now available on Spotify as well as other digital platforms, and can also be purchased physically from Walt Disney Records.

The release comes a few days after composer Nicholas Britell posted on social media he had finished putting the final touches to the score. The music was obviously heard during the episodes when they aired on Disney Plus, so Britell was probably referring to some additional mixing or small corrections they had to add for the digital release of the tracks. Albums for the previous eight episodes are also available, named Volume 1 and Volume 2.

Here is the full tracklist for Volume 3…

Ashley Eckstein Visited the Ahsoka Set

Ashley Eckstein, the original voice actress for Ahsoka Tano, has revealed that she got an opportunity to visit the set of the live-action Disney Plus Ahsoka series starring Rosario Dawson.

Talking to Looper (hat tip r/StarWarsLeaks), Ashley Eckstein managed to reveal that she got to visit the set of the live-action Disney Plus series. While there’s little that she could talk about without breaking the standard non-disclosure agreements that come with a set visit on a major franchise, she did note that she got to meet Rosario Dawson on the set of the series for the first time….

Andor Now Certified Fresh

While the ratings may not be there like they were for The Mandalorian, it’s undeniable that Andor is getting rave reviews across the board. The initial batch of reactions from critics was very positive, and now, with 478 reviews and a 92% critic rating, the first season of the series has been Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.

Fans have also given their stamp of approval on the website, with 2588 user ratings as of the posting of this article and an overall 83% score. It is not rare for more quiet and reserved series or movies, even when they are overall praised from critics and fans, to have a slightly higher critic rating than an audience one. More explosive movies like Black Adam have much higher audience than critic ratings….

Lindelof Movie Taking December 2025 Slot?

More news on the Damon Lindelof-written Star Wars movie has come into focus from Jeff Sneider, who was the first to report that Lindelof was developing a Star Wars movie.

About 19 minutes into his podcast The Hot Mic, the conversation towards Star Wars and specifically the recent news about Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy being hired to direct the movie scripted by Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson. While Star Wars movies as of late have entered periods of development hell while Lucasfilm paves a cinematic future not solely dependent on the Skywalker Family, Sneider explained that he was confident this film will be the next one in theaters…

‘Andor’ Episode 8 Review: ‘Narkina 5’

Toby Haynes returns to direct the latest episode of Andor, scripted by Beau Willimon, where the Empire continues to exercise its full power over the galaxy. It is the beginning of yet another three-episode arc after the deviation from that structure that episode 7 gave us last week, and once again, it feels as mostly set-up for what’s to come.

The seventh episode followed the traditional three-act structure, with a beginning, middle, and end, while Narkina 5 is very much the beginning. And yet, the overall cohesiveness of the episode was beautifully achieved, with Willimon still managing to include some set-ups that were later paid off in most of the subplots in the episode, and through masterful editing happening all around. And those cameos too!…

Did Star Wars: Andor Just Tease A Major Jedi Cameo?

Here’s the latest from: The Direct – Star Wars

Leading up to Andor‘s three-episode debut, the Star Wars fan base was expecting the series to be a stand-alone story in more ways than one.

In addition to being a spin-off and a prequel to 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, where audiences already know the fate of its primary character, Andor was seen as a passion project by showrunner Tony Gilroy.

Now, even though Gilroy penned Rogue One, he isn’t as deep into the Star Wars lore as Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, nor was Andor intended to be a continuation of their Mando-Verse.

Therefore, few fans were expecting Skywalker connections or the presence of a Jedi. In fact, it was up for debate as to whether Vader would have a role or even ignite his saber.

But as Andor continues to impress fans and critics with its brilliant subtlety and quality, the show has surprised the same with its Jedi references and potential connections.  …

‘Andor’ Production Design Highlighted

Here’s the latest from: SWNN

A new, 90-second featurette from National Geographic Travel has been released, focusing on the work that Andor production designer Luke Hull did on the series. Gilroy has mentioned before that the production designer was one of the first people he hired when he started working on the scripts for Andor, and Hull’s work on Chernobyl was what sold him on the name. Check out the new featurette here:

John Williams And Bob Iger Made Honorary Knights

Her Royal Highness has made honorary knights of John Williams, who has been with the Star Wars franchise since the very beginning, and Bob Iger, who acquired the franchise as part of his Lucasfilm purchase during his tenure at Disney.

Per The Daily Mail, it was learned that Queen Elizabeth II approved the honors of knighthood to both Williams and Iger some time before she recently passed away at the age of 96. Given that true knighthood is officially reserved for British citizens, neither Williams nor Iger will be able to officially carry the title of “Sir”. Williams and Iger join a list of Americans made honorary knights by the Queen that include the likes of Steven Spielberg, Angelina Jolie, and the late Bob Hope….

‘Andor’ Season 2 Enlists Ariel Kleiman

As part of a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy revealed that Yellowjackets director Ariel Kleiman will be a director on the second season of the new Star Wars series, which will film in the UK between November and August.

When asked if he’ll be directing on season 2, Tony Gilroy said the following:

“I am not. I can’t. This job is just too huge. I don’t have the time to spare. It’s a really poor use of my time. Ari [Ariel] Kleiman is out in Pinewood. I was out there this morning. We start shooting in November. He started prepping three weeks ago. He’s got his hands full out there just to get to November. I have all the rest of the things I have to do. There was some fantasy that I would end up doing the last block, but I just can’t, to be honest with you.”…

Gilroy Explains Why ‘Andor’ Didn’t Use The Volume

In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy discussed why they ultimately opted not to use the Volume technology for the show, and gave some insight into Luthen Rael, the mysterious character played by Stellan Skarsgård that we were introduced to in the second episode. In this article, we’ve condensed the most interesting parts of the interview, but you may head over to their site if you are interested in reading the entire piece.

When asked if shooting on location was a prerequisite for him when he was brought on board, Gilroy said that it was a decision that they took when they started to plan out the series and hired a production designer:

“When I came on, Sanne Wohlenberg was the producer of record. She came with the existing pieces of the show. So Sanne was there, but I didn’t know her. She had just done Chernobyl, and it was sort of a shotgun marriage. So here we were together, and I had no idea that she was just going to be this rockstar producer.

And so the first decision you have to make is who’s going to be your production designer. Even in writing, my first call is to the production designer, because everything we do has to be designed. So we put a marker down. It was kind of a test for Disney: ‘How serious are you?’ We didn’t want to go with any of the traditional Star Wars people. We wanted [production designer] Luke Hull, who was like 12 years old and had just done Chernobyl. He’s just a fricking genius, but non-Star Wars in every way. So we brought him over. As I was doing the [series] bible, I wrote the first three episodes as a sort of a test….

Review: ‘Andor’ Episodes 1-3

In their marketing campaign for the latest Star Wars live-action series, Andor, Lucasfilm and the cast and crew behind the project tried to stress a handful of things to the public. Perhaps the most important one is that this is no regular Star Wars series — it is as close to an HBO drama as Star Wars can get, with no Jedi or lightsabers around. Tony Gilroy, the showrunner, head writer, and executive producer on the series, is famously not a Star Wars fanatic (something that was definitely interesting in some aspects, as I’ll discuss later), and was drawn to the project because of the character drama that he found behind it, as well as the scope that he would be able to achieve with the backing of a huge machine like Disney and Lucasfilm’s.

Diego Luna, who plays 21-year-old, future Rebel spy Cassian Andor, was immediately sold on Gilroy’s pitch, as the writer wanted to test the limits of what Lucasfilm would be willing to do with Star Wars. Right off the bat, he announces to the audience that he wasn’t kidding with all of his talk, when Cassian Andor walks into a brothel in the very first scene of the show. While it certainly isn’t the first time sex is alluded to in Star Wars, Andor got quite explicit in the first two episodes, both in this scene and when Adria Arjona’s Bix visits his booty call late at night in the second episode.

It’s clear from the very beginning that Gilroy doesn’t care about pleasing a fanbase or checking the classic Star Wars boxes that creators like Dave Filoni or Jon Favreau would. And that is not a burn on them either, it’s just a different piece of content, and something Star Wars should be grateful for. Gilroy also doesn’t care about keeping awake those who set their alarms at 3am to watch the new Star Wars episode by throwing flashy action sequences in their faces. He builds his story through dialogue and character conflict, and through careful setup in the first two episodes, he finally delivers a grand spectacle in the third. But we’ll get to that….

‘Andor’: Length Of The Series

In a recent interview with ABC’s On the Red Carpet, Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy and actors Kyle Soller and Denise Gough have weighed in on how long a Star Wars series should be.

Gilroy took the occasion to highlight, yet again, why he’s so thankful for this opportunity — it’s not because he’s a Star Wars fan that has always wanted to play in this sandbox, but because he’s an immensely talented creator who was looking for a major platform to tell the story he wants with next to no limitations, and not just in terms of budget.

He said the following…

‘Rogue Squadron’ Removed From Disney’s Schedule

Star Wars: Rogue Squadron will not be taking flight on December 22, 2023 as previously planned, as the film is no longer on Disney’s official release schedule. While many expected this based on credible rumblings and the fact that it didn’t enter production, it has only now been removed from the release schedule. Here are the details.

Variety broke the news that Disney has opted to remove the film, which had already had its production start indefinitely delayed, from its current release schedule. Given that the film needed to start moving forward, as a major film requires months of pre-production, months to shoot, and months to complete in post-production, it was clear that the film was not making a Christmas 2023 release date. With radio silence on the film for months, it was obvious that the studio was going to put the project on the shelf, at least for a while.

Rogue Squadron was initially described as a tale that would “move the saga into the future era” of the galaxy far, far away when it was formally announced at the end of 2020, with the film set to be first Star Wars film that would hit theaters after The Rise of Skywalker in 2019, at the helm of Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins with a script by Matthew Robinson. However, it was rumored that there were issues not only with the director’s schedule (even though she opted to hand the director’s chair for Cleopatra over to someone else while remaining on as a producer for that film), but various unspecified behind-the-scenes issues with development. It currently appears that Jenkins is focused on her work on a third Wonder Woman movie, meaning that if Rogue Squadron is still a project Lucasfilm is moving forward with, it will either be with another creative team, or we’ll be in for a long wait for Jenkins to return….

Rumor: Eman Esfandi To Play Ezra In ‘Ahsoka’

A new report by Cinelinx is saying Eman Esfandi, from King Richard and an upcoming film The Inspection, will be playing Ezra Bridger in live-action, in the upcoming Ahsoka series. Filming has been going on since May 9 and will continue for a couple more months in the Volume at Manhattan Beach Studios as well as the trainyard at El Segundo, in Los Angeles.

The search for Ezra has been one of the most discussed Star Wars-related topics of the past couple of years, both on- and off-screen. After Chapter 13 of The Mandalorian set up the Ahsoka spin-off show, when Rosario Dawson’s version of the character name-dropped Grand Admiral Thrawn, it became clear the storyline would follow up on the events of the Star Wars: Rebels finale. During Star Wars Celebration this year, Dave Filoni strongly hinted that the Ghost crew would be reuniting in the series, but there hasn’t been a lot of news regarding Ezra and Thrawn….

Rumor: No New Movie Before 2024 At D23

The Star Wars film hiatus after The Rise of Skywalker is set to continue for at least one year longer than initially anticipated.

After the underperformance of Solo: A Star Wars Story, Lucasfilm hit the pause button on Star Wars films ahead of the ninth Skywalker Saga episode to reassess the situation. Some projects have remained in limbo, such as a potential trilogy of films written and directed by The Last Jedi writer/director Rian Johnson (who has opted instead to focus on making sequels to his whodunit mystery film Knives Out), and a Rogue Squadron adaptation by Patty Jenkins (who has seemingly put the project on pause in favor of working on a third Wonder Woman film, which is expected to be her last). Other projects have been reworked into television series, with planned spin-offs for Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi and Temuera Morrison’s Boba Fett being turned into limited series with potential for more. There have been a number of films that have been placed into the pipeline with no word on whether or not they’ll move forward, such as Taika Waititi’s film (which may film as soon as early next year), and with Damon Lindelof speculated to be writing a Star Wars movie script right now.

Unfortunately, it seems like we’ll have to wait a bit longer to get news on the theatrical front. A recent report from the Puck News newsletter (run by former THR editor Matt Belloni) talked about what to expect at Disney D23 ahead of the opening Friday, and the picture painted says that Lucasfilm want to keep their cards to their vest until they’re completely confident in where to take the franchise next on a theatrical front. In short, don’t expect a new Star Wars movie to come out until 2024 or later. Check out a screencap of the newsletter below…

‘The Acolyte’ Casts ‘Squid Game’s Lee Jung-Jae

Deadline is reporting that the upcoming live-action Star Wars series The Acolyte has cast Lee Jung-Jae as its male lead. The series’ lead role will be played by Amandla Stenberg (Bodies Bodies Bodies, The Hunger Games), with Jodie Turner-Smith in negotiations to join as well.

The outlet also points out that Leslye Headland is the series’ director, writer, executive producer, and showrunner. We knew about the former two, and assumed she would also take writing credits for some episodes, but it was unclear if she would also direct for the series. Deadline‘s wording seems to imply that she will be the only director on the series, though we don’t know for certain yet. According to the report, Headland and Kathleen Kennedy have been carefully putting together an A-list cast for the series that also happens to be diverse.

Lee Jung-Jae broke into fame last year after the global success of Netflix’s Squid Game. He has earned awards for his performance, and is now the frontrunner to take the Best Actor Emmy in the upcoming ceremony. Details about his character in The Acolyte are currently unknown….

Respawn’s First Person Shooter Will Use UE5

Respawn’s next Star Wars title will not use their parent company’s in-house Frostbite Engine to create the worlds of its first-person shooter Star Wars game, but Unreal Engine 5.

Electronic Arts games usually make use of the company’s in-house coding program, the Frostbite Engine, which is typically best-served for FPS titles (barring a notable exception with Battlefield 2042). However, it’s been learned (hat tip Gameranx) that Respawn Entertainment has opted not to use Frostbite for any of their games, and they are continuing their tradition by choosing to use Unreal Engine 5, which is made by EA competitor Epic Games, to bring one of their next Star Wars games to life.

Gleeson Would Love To Return To Star Wars

The Star Wars sequel trilogy was certainly very divisive among the fanbase, but some of the people involved are still very excited about the franchise and would be back instantly if given the opportunity. Unlike John Boyega, who most recently said he’s done with our favorite galaxy far, far away, The Last Jedi writer/director Rian Johnson mentioned recently that he’d hate to be done with it, Oscar Isaac said he would consider returning if the story was right, and now, Domhnall Gleeson, who played Admiral Hux, has given the most emphatic yes out of the main cast in recent memory. (Outside of maybe Kelly Marie Tran, who is still involved with Lucasfilm.)

In a recent interview during the press tour for his new series The Patient, Gleeson was asked if he’d ever consider a return to the Star Wars galaxy, to which the actor replied, enthusiastically, the following:

“Of course I would! He was really interesting, and I think there’s a lot I could do more [with him].

I don’t see them making the call. I’m not sure anybody’s clamoring for a Hux sequel or prequel. But yeah, of course. Those movies are amazing.”…

Review: ‘Darth Vader’ #26

After Darth Vader #25, I predicted that riding a podracer would see Vader wrestle with some personal demons, and that #26 would also see Sabé resurface in the storm, and I was right. If anything, this issue spends a little too much time wandering through Vader’s memories and retreading old ground, though it does mark a significant change in Vader’s journey towards his eventual redemption.

The Darth Vader comic series (particularly Charles Soule’s run) has always been at its most fascinating when Vader strolls down memory lane, dealing with some of his awful decisions as Anakin Skywalker and wondering what might have been. Unfortunately, this issue isn’t as effective with its flashbacks…..

Damon Lindelof & Reported ‘Star Wars’ Rumour
